I have started this with my 9 year old. He is keeping me going tbh. I have completed the second run last night while he was at football training so we were both doing exercise at the sane time. I found it ok and at the right pace but can’t see how I could possible be fit enough to run 5k or 30 mins. I am knackered after just doing the 8 mins of total running.
I will keep going as I am hoping to be fit enough to do the Wigan 5k in march x

Of course you’re knackered Chezza80 - because you’ve just got off the couch! But you’ve done the hard bit now and while running nonstop for 30 minutes seems impossible at this point, trust me when I say it is entirely possible! I did it and I started as a 65year old who had never run in her life! Just follow the plan - stay hydrated, take it slowly (and then slow down to slower than snail pace) and if you feel you need an extra rest day then take it. There’s no rush to finish and no-one watching! Many of us don’t run 5k in 30 minutes at the end of the programme - but I guarantee you will be running 30 minutes nonstop! Good luck - and keep posting to let us know how you get on!
Hi chezza. The c25k app really does work I think the majority of of people who started felt the same as you do now. It’s surprising how unfit I felt when I started and had to run for 60 seconds but if you follow the program make sure you have at least a rest day In between runs . Go slow and keep hydrated you will be fit enough to do 30mins running nonstop. You have got yourself a goal by signing up to a 5k and you have got time to do it. Good luck . I’ve signed up for the 10 mile in Wigan in March and I’m a little nervous about that it will be my 1st race
Hi.. Ive just done wk1 run 2 also. Feeling exactly the same as you regarding running for 30 minutes 😂. But I'm determined to keep on the plan and see where I get. Aim is to do a 5k at the end in a gorgeous location. We can do this!
I've not got to the end of C25K yet and for various reasons am currently 'between runs having effectively finished Week 3 up to now. When I first started I blindly expected to be running 5k within 9 weeks, then I had my first attempt at Week 1 Run 1! Although I've been a squash player for the past 40 years I've never been athletic and certainly never been a runner. I am determined to complete C25K (hopefully re-starting on Saturday) but know that this will take me longer than 9 weeks, but that is not a problem. I am going to do it at my own pace and if I can't complete a whole run I just consider it to be a practice run (you never stop learning). I will never move on a week until I have completed the previous weeks 3 consecutive runs (including rest days). If I find I'm struggling with a week I will happily drop back one to further build my stamina and more importantly re-build my self-confidence (I feel that for me the challenge is 25% physical & 75% mental). The other thing I accept is that at the end I will be running for 30 minutes, but this will probably be at a speed where I don't cover 5k in that time. Speed & therefore distance can come later! Keep posting on here as it is a wonderful & supportive community and good luck with your progress.
Good move, remember to take it slowly then slower again. The problem with your 9 year old is he will want to be "off the block" and run faster than you should. Take it easy and try and keep your strides short. It is easy to go faster or longer strides but that not help at all. Make sure you drink lots of water every day and read the guidelines above.
