Shock to the system

Just completed my first run, my goodness I struggled. It’s very hilly where I live and I hit an incline at the first 60 second run. What a struggle! I walked more than ran the rest of the session but I did the whole lot!! Unfortunately I was 2 big hills from home after the cool down and had to ring hubby to pick me up, my legs and back just couldn’t do any more. I need to sort a better route for day 2 on Wednesday!!

Well done you got out there and ran, that is very exciting, hope you find a flatter route and take it very gently and slow to start with you are conditioning your body to run for 30 minutes it’s not a race

Have fun

Thank you, I’m thinking of running round the park to ensure a flat route next time!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on starting the program.

The main thing to remember is that when you read or hear the word run think more of a slow jog, the aim is to complete each run.

Just take it slow and steady, don't sprint, just jog.

Enjoy the runs and post up regularly.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice, “jog” is definitely my pace at the moment!

Well done, you did it! Hills are the work of the devil, try to plan as flat a route as you can.

I will have to or I will never get past run 1! My legs just couldn’t move after today’s run, like they were full of concrete. Hills are no friend to beginner runners!

Make sure you do your cool down stretches while your muscles are still warm. A warm bath might help. There are some great yoga videos on YouTube: yoga with Adrienne. They might help you loosen up.

Well done for doing it👍Defo try to find a flat route. It makes a heckuva difference. It’s a great feeling that you’re out there though isn’t!

I had moments when I was amazed at myself for just being out in the rain!! Everything hurts so badly now, but I’m telling myself keeping running will get me fitter and get rid of all the aches and pains 👍

It might be worth finding a flat bit of road and running up and down it for a few runs. I have hills and avoided them until running became easier. It’s can be boring just going up and down but it worked for me then I slowly edged into the slopes.

Good idea, I think I might have to drive to a flatter stretch and then maybe run up and down until I’ve got my fitness level up
