Running in secret

I have started C25K before Christmas and whilst walking my dogs just started with the first week. As seems to be with most i am over 50, over weight and not really wanting to run (shuffle) in front of my neighbours. I have found a quiet spot in the forestry and if i go early no one is about. I have managed to get to week 5 run 3 today and thought i was doing quite well, not easy but doable, then this morning i put on the podcast and my evil personal trainer said i was going to run for twenty minutes which i thought was bit much much after the first two runs this week!! After five minutes i was struggling and at ten thought i might have to throw the towel in pushed to fifteen (still shuffling) and the end was in sight. Chuffed to bits i did it but really thought i would not make it. The evil trainer has threatened me with at least twentys from now on. I am so glad i don't look at the podcasts before i go to do them otherwise i think i might chicken out. I look forward to the day i don't worry about whether i will make it for a half hour shuffle. also looking forward to some weight loss.

Well done! You might be surprised by W6, but I’m not going to post a spoiler. Be prepared though as it can catch people out- just take it slowly 👍😁

That run really shows you what you can achieve with a great plan and brilliant effort.

You should be so pleased and proud of yourself 😊😊

Well done and what an achievement...I wish I had somewhere to walk where I wouldn't have to worry about what others might think. I struggled with W4 run 3 today...I made it but only just so think I should do this run again to be sure I am ready to move on to week 5 :-)

Don't worry what anyone else thinks just be yourself wherever you want to run! You should be proud of yourself!

Thanks for your encouragement I do appreciate the support from this community :-)

You’d actually run 15 or 16 minutes on five occasions before that. Week 5 didn’t increase the running significantly at all: it just gradually reduces the walks in between.

If it helps - I'm 60 and do some if my runs in the gym at work! I work in a University and am surrounded by youngsters in the gym. I don't care but do enjoy my outdoor runs along the canal!

You did it, what an achievement!

You might be surprised at the reaction of your neighbours - they might actually be jealous and admire your determination. I do.

You should be proud of yourself for hitting the milestone run in secret. Stop hiding and show the world what you’re capable of. Good luck with the rest of your running journey 🏃‍♀️

Dogs are great, and they can keep a secret.😋. Once you have done a few 20 minutes runs , I think it does begin to flow and it's about time you come out of the shadows and be proud of yourself. You have nothing to hide , you're doing great.

Well done! The 20 minute run is a massive milestone and for me it was the point where I thought that I could actually be a runner. Even now, I find the first 5 minutes of a run more difficult than the rest - you have to get through that and get into your rhythm. Something to do with lactic acid build up, I think. The best thing is not to go too fast.
