Pace app?

Afternoon all, I’ve done a fair few consolidation runs, I now want to up my pace slightly and break that 30minute mark for a 5k (averaging 31-32minutes) does anyone know of an app that will tell me my pace? Ideally without looking at it, so it will tell me through my headphones where I am at?

Most of the tracking apps have a current pace setting, although in my experience of Runkeeper, setting notification of average pace is a better and more reliable method.

Remember, it is recommended that you spend 70-80% of your running time at an easy conversational pace to build strength and stamina, not pushing hard.

As IT says most apps that measure distance and time will give you an audible pace guide. I use Runkeeper or Nike Run Club. Both allow feedback at distance (starting at 250m) or time intervals.

Consider making one run shorter say 15 mins and gradually upping the pace on that run. Then extend another run by time or distance (be consistent) by a little each week but doing it below your current consolidation pace. Don't break the 10% increase rule. For a safe, known to work plan try juju's magic plan. You may not want to run 10k but I believe the wisdom is, to run faster at 5k you have to be able to run further at a slower pace.

There will be plenty of articles in runners world or similar on how to increase speed.

Lastly hop over to the Bridge to 10k forum for advice 😊

Thanks both, Runkeeper downloaded and I’ll see how I go, like the idea of a shorter faster run

Strava does that too. It will announce your pace over the previous km or whatever interval you set it to. Not by default though, you have to switch voice promots on in settings.

Thanks, is this just be for the paid Strava? I can’t seem to find on my free one

No I’m sure I was still using the free version when I used it. Go to record, then settings, then audio cues and look under run. Mine was set to announce every half k.

Running watches also offer pace. I have never taken my phone on a run (when I ran) but got a cheap running watch off eBay which uploaded all the stats onto my phone. Then I bought a smart watch which tracked all my runs and uploaded them to my phone.
