Boxing Day Run

I had a lovely new Garmin forerunner for Christmas yesterday so I just had to give it a test run this morning! Drizzly conditions, but not too bad. If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be going for a run on Boxing Day morning I’d have laughed in your face 😂

Did anyone else get a new bit of kit from Santa?

Happy running everyone 😊

Great thank you, even got a 1 point vo2max increase on Christmas day- another stat for you to look at 😉

I’m still trying- vo2max has me stumped. Someone previously said they celebrate when numbers go up and ignore when down😆

I cant believe how free I feel when running. I actually loose minutes and think...how did I get this far. Not thinking about the running at all.

That is a great present you got for Christmas Rhedeg2019, I have only been a runner for less than two years but a keen walker for over 40 years, all my relatives think that I still do a lot of walking but don't realise that I have taken up running, so all I got for Christmas were plenty of thick walking socks, gloves and a warm jumper but no running equipment whatsoever, enjoy your new Garmin forerunner.

You will have to tell them before next year

in reply to AlMorr

That’s a shame AlMorr. Definitely tell them how well you’re doing with your running and how enthusiastic you are about it! Thank you. I’m very pleased with it 😊

Me too! (on the kit and the thought about running!) I got a Samsung active watch and it is lovely! Took me for my first boxing day run - beat the fox and I got my first medal! Today is a day for firsts!!

Congratulations to you Smelliepoo on getting your first medal, also I am happy that you got a Samsung actve watch to tell you your times when running, you can look forward to many happy runs in 2020 with that watch.

Is that the 645? Music? I’ve got one if so. Jury’s still out on it but I hope I made the right decision upgrading from my 35. How was it?

in reply to Tasha99

Yep it is! Have you used yours yet?

I like it! I’ve only used it once, but I think it’s a great bit of kit. I had a bit of a play around with it last night and I managed to download Spotify onto it, a few playlists and even a training plan - which is what I used for for my run today. So I’m impressed so far!

No I’ve not run with it yet. I will Saturday big as that’s a club run I’m not allowed headphones so won’t use the music feature. I’ll try that out on NYD at double parkrun but I know I’ll be all flustered trying to set runs and music off at the same time 🤣

Was it a music file type training plan then?

in reply to Tasha99

Awwwww don’t panic. I set off the music first and then started the run off. It’s quite easy 👌🏼

If you download the Garmin connect app there’s a ‘training’ section in the 3 little dots in the bar at the bottom. All you need to do is say what your goal is, how often you train and it’ll set up a plan for you and when you sync your phone with the watch it transfers the training plan to the watch. (There’s YouTube videos for how to do it all if I’ve confused you) For your first run it wants you to do a 2 minute warm up 5 min run and 2 min warm down - to assess your fitness I think, but I just selected ‘continue’ and carried on doing my 30 minutes 🤣 It’s very clever!

Oooh fun! Glad the music is easy enough. Having issues getting message and call notifications through but it may be as I’m in that limbo period waiting for my number to transfer over to my new phone. Are your working? Worried it’s my huawei phone as when I googled it, there have been some problems with this brand.

in reply to Tasha99

My texts are coming through, but I haven’t had a phone call yet 😂
