I was up early on Saturday to start on my jobs list in preparation for our traditional Thanksgiving feast. I know, wrong day and wrong country, but that's a fun story for another day. My intention was to do my run inbetween finishing preparations and guests arriving.
Well that didnt go to plan. Thankfully our guests are all good friends who pitched in to help get everything ready. However, nobody offered to run for me!
Our last guest left around 6.30am on Sunday morning. Now at the age of 49, i still consider myself to be young, but I'm just not young enough to recover quickly from that kind marathon session. And so running on Sunday and Monday was completely written off.
So, after an unplanned 4 rest days (rest? I dont think so), I'm back on it. And it felt really good. Decent pace, didnt struggle and recovered quickly and I enjoyed it! Roll on Thursday.
Happy running everybody

Life does intrude doesn’t it!! Well done for adjusting to change of plan and you got out there 👏. Ditto here but tomorrow is the replanned day for me 👍W6 🤞. You must tell us about the across the pond story sometime 😂
Blimey Migs! No wonder you needed an extra rest day, after a session like that I would have needed to start again from week 1, and after about a months rest! It really looks like the programme is working for you as you got back out there and did it with relative ease, brilliant stuff, well done!
To be honest, I think I just needed the break anyway. But I was so tired, I knew I could never finish a 25 min run. I was struggling to stay awake :-).
I find my legs usually respond well to having an unexpected couple of days off from the usual routine. They clearly appreciate the extra recovery time. Last night's run
( healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...... ) is almost a classic example of my legs being nice to me because I gave them an extra day off...
I'd have probably said something similar back in late April when I was at the point of the programme you are at. Took me just over 5 months to build from graduating (4.2k in 30 mins), to HM (in 2 hours 48), so it can be done if it's what you decide you want to. That said, not everyone is quite as deranged as me, so just find the distance/duration that works for you.
