Second time around

I've been a huge fan of the C25K programme, since I first completed it about five years ago at the age of 52. I followed it up with lots of Park Runs and over a year I managed a PB of about 26mins. Which I was gobsmacked about (in a good way)! And kept running for the next few years.

Then about two years ago I got I'll with an underactive thyroid. I put on two stone, lost all motivation and just felt exhausted all the time.

The reason for posting this message is what happened next. Somehow knowing that I could just go back to Week 1, and start all over again has helped me to 'detach' being tired from motivation. The brilliant C25K programme and podcast provides me with just enough of a prompt and a structure to get me out again every other day.

I'm still two stone overweight and that doesn't look like changing any time soon, but I am really happy to say that I've made it back to Week 5 with that huge sense of achievement I know all C25K runners will recognise.

PS Laura is still my favourite!

Well done for getting back on it, you're doing brilliantly - Week 5 already! Common wisdom seems to be that running on its own doesn't do much for weight loss (you're building muscle, for a start) but the other health benefits are huge. I'm overweight myself and though I haven't noticed much difference on the scales, clothes are fitting better, I've had to tighten my belt, and several people have commented that I've lost weight. But it's the unseen benefits that I'm more interested in!

Thank you so much. I mentioned more because I feared it might be an obstacle to running at all. But,no! Okay I go a bit slower but I'm happy with that. Have had the belt tightening phenomenon yet though...yet!

Welcome back & a massive well done for getting going again. 😄

We are delighted to cheer you on if you want to post.

You are not alone in re-doing the program & returning to the forum – I am redoing C25K following a back injury and currently I’m on W7.😄

Good for you! Backs (and knees, and hips too of course), are so tempremental! How is it holding up?

It’s ok, thanks, just grizzling a bit. I keep going with the physio exercises & run slowly and gently. 😄

I know it's hard work having a weak back. Sounds like you're doing everything that you can. Keep it up.

Fabulous to hear. You already know the range of benefits from first time around and clearly already feeling the benefits again. You’re so right, it is a marvellous programme in so many ways. I’m still flabbier and chubbier but happier since running again. Enjoy your runs.
