Walking instead of running

I have given up running after several episodes of left SI pain as running just irritates the joint so now I am doing "walk at home" sessions instead after finding the program on Youtube and then online. It means I can still do 5k & more, have a good sweaty workout but all in my living room. A good alternative for me because if my SI joint does decide to play up, I won't be 3 miles from home. I'm still moving, burning calories and getting fitter. Much better than sitting on the sofa :)

Happy running / walking everyone x

Sorry to hear your SI is preventing you from running but absolutely great you’re enjoying your walking and being active in any way is always good. Hope SI settles down.

thanks - it has been on & off for years and I completed C25k 3 years ago but it started niggling in 2018 and really was a problem in 2019 and running irritated it. I do miss running but have to listen to my body. The walk at home sessions are a great alternative. x

Good to know you are still doing your thing..! Such a blow to stop running after you were doing so wonderfully.

But, as ever you are still staying active..maybe take a peek at the Strength and Flex Forum..there are lots of new ideas and exercise there now.

Most of my posts are simple effective, keep us moving links...you might find something there to link in with your walking.

Great to have you back my friend x

Hi Dhiny.

I'm in a similar position but with shin splints. I could never get past week 2 because of the pain, I now walk at least 5 miles 4 or 5 times a week and have covered 3,470 miles since February 2018.

Well done, walking is underrated but is an excellent form of exercise. I walk 4-5 times weekly & have set myself a challenge to walk everyday through December 😁

Good on ya, walking is also low impact which must be helpful as we get older.

I had shin splint very bad but I got well with home physio. The cure was purely exercise ,which was a relief I had to see an NHS physio after going to the doc. It’s about strengthening the calves mainly, but the whole body strengthens as you keep going

I walk everywhere. It’s ace 😃. I was watching the dog in the park today and I walk backwards - slowly - so I can stretch out my calves and keep an eye on the dog. I discovered that stretch just from walking the dog.

As long as we keep moving it’s all good 😃
