For anyone who has netflix we watched The Game Changer last night, it’s about protein and muscle and whether we need it or not and how it can affect our energy levels along with a load of other interesting info.
The first ten minutes are a bit boring but worth a watch
Our decision is meat free days before run days and see if it makes a difference.....

I'm not qualified on the science and I only eat meat once a week anyway, but there has been quite a debate online about the evidence used in that programme. You might find this article interesting.
Thank you for that link. It was the most interesting and informative text I've seen since attending a course on nutrition numerous years ago. Even more powerful having been written by a vegan explaining the benefits of animal based nutrition. Fantastic. I love this forum, someone has links to all the good research.
I prefer to eat red meat twice a week, but whether or not I have it before a run, doesn’t seem to make any difference. However I do find eating it at night as opposed to midday, causes havoc with my digestion!
We went meat and dairy free just over a year ago and have more strength and energy than ever. I carefully monitored everything we ate for a good few months to make sure we were getting enough of everything, we averaged just under 100g protein each daily which is more than enough even with all the activity we do.
We haven't missed anything or regretted our decision yet.
I was less impressed with Game Changers. I was more convinced by Forks over Knives and What the Health.
Mmmm, I haven't watched the documentary as I tend to not watch anything that promotes a lifestyle over any other one, especially when it comes to food.
When you look at humans and their history and some of the suggestions about our evolution, we've been foragers, hunter/gatherers, etc, through out our history there would have been a mixture of feed we have eaten to promote our evolution into what we are today.
If someone chooses to be a vegan then I'm happy for them, if someone chooses a paleo type diet then I'm happy for them too. I like a mixed diet, with meat, fish and vegetables, etc, I could never be a true vegan even if I wanted to be, I like chocolate too much
I think everyone has there own opinion of what we should and shouldn't do. I mean if we had to listen to everything we wouldn't be running as some think it damages your joints 😊
I became a vegetarian two years ago after almost losing my closest friend to bowel cancer. Having supported her through her oncology and NHS dietitian appointments, I lost nearly three stone, became much more active and overhauled my diet. I stopped eating processed foods and red meat first and soon lost my appetite for meat altogether. In the last six months I've made an effort to eat meat once a week, not because of the protein, but because of the iron. I've no idea which of the changes has had the most effect, but I do know that if I eat meat two or three days in a row, I feel sluggish and my digestive system goes on strike.
I do think there is no one diet that works for everyone
As I said on another post yesterday, I feel better than I did twenty years ago (I'm almost 60).
I accidentally posted that without finishing it 😕. I only meant to add that we all get through life the best way we can, but we can do so much to be responsible for our own health.
Hi all, i wasn’t necessarily promoting the diet just thought it was interesting, there are extremes in every walk of life, i like to go the middle road so will be cutting some of the rubbish out of our diet and adding more non animal products
As others have said it’s personal choice and everyone has different experiences

Watched it last night with my husband and a friend... I have been a vegetarian from birth (53 years) I also never eat cheese and my husband only eats meat away from home and our friend has never been a vegetarian. From watching the film last night my husband said he will never eat meat again. Our friend also is a convert!
My parents aged 81 and 82 have also been vegetarians for 63 years. It was a decision they made together when they first met 👴👵
My dad was a chef in the army and has always been the main cook at home. When I was at school, my friends used to think I was a little odd 😂 but when they were invited round for tea, they used to go home and tell their parents about this amazing food they'd had 😂

Thank you, I’ve been an on and off vegetarian for 40 odd years, people thought i was very strange in my 20’s but now it’s much more usual and the choices are so much better. my daughter hasn’t eaten meat since she was 8 although does love cheese and eggs, her daughter has been vegan for 3 years now and at 16 enjoys experimenting her favourite is a home made vegetable curry that she changes depending on what veg are in the house
My grandson 14 watched the film with his dad and got a few giggles out of it.It will be interesting to see if it changes his eating habits
We are all different, but i do feel less bloated on meat free days
When I was growing up we lived in a multi cultural community and my mum and dad would have dinner parties with their friends and swap vegetarian recipes 😂 Plantains, sweet potatoes, yams, dudhi and jackfruit were regulars on the menu! One of the highlights of my week was going to the market with my parents! We had Jamaican and Asian stalls that were full of exotic fruit and veg! I remember one time going to the market with my mum and dad and seeing a vegetable that they were not sure what it was. When they asked what it was and how to cook it, the stall holder invited us round for dinner to show us! That would never happen now 😪 I wish I could remember what it was? xxx
What a treat your market sounds, we lived on a farm way out in the country and there was nothing like that but a friend of my parents worked on the boats that went to Africa so we sometimes were given a whole tray of avocados which are still a favourite of mine and nectarines which made us laugh because we’d never seen furless peaches before
There is such variety in the plant world and as we experiment we find more foods to enjoy
I will have to give this a watch, it’s an interesting subject. I grew up eating meat with 2 vegan parents and a vegetarian sister. I remember having to cook meat outside on a bbq. 🙄.
I gave up meat in my 30s as I felt sluggish. I did feel a lot better and just ate a bit of fish every now and then but had to go back to meat when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s when I was 50. To be honest I haven’t noticed any difference since eating meat and just try to eat healthy following all the latest advice. I think you have to listen to your body really.
I gave it a watch last night. I was a really good watch and really interesting. I’m just not sure how true all their claims are. Each to their own I guess. It did make me laugh 🍆🤣
