5.15 am Cold, Dark and Peeing down. The thought of not going flickered very briefly at the back of my mind but I went and it was awesome. definitely easier than run 1 and I could have easily done more, not bad for a fat bloke in his 50's that's carrying at least 50lbs more than is good for him :-) I would like to say what an amazing and inspirational group of people you are and thank you so much for all of your kind messages of support. It is more helpful and motivating than I would ever have believed. Thank You all!

Yes the support you’ll receive here is awesome! It’s like having a running partner to hold you to your promises!

BTW: is a Rig Pig any relation to a Sat Rat?

Rigpig profile image
RigpigGraduate in reply toEnxo

Colloquial name for an oilfield worker, which I was for many years :-)

Enxo profile image
EnxoGraduate in reply toRigpig

Then you’ll know what a Sat Rat is then!

Rigpig profile image
RigpigGraduate in reply toEnxo

Can't say I have ever heard that one?

My brother was a saturation diver on the rigs and it’s an older sat diver that spends all his time in sat conditions in order to earn max bucks. Basically you have to prise them out with a crowbar!

Ah right, Of course! I've met many of those :-) They were only allowed to do so many days a year and would bugger off abroad to do extra time. The physical damage they suffer is horrendous.

Well done on braving the elements. I think when you have those doubt flickers, it just makes the achievement even more satisfying when you do it! 😁

Well done to Rigpig on going out in the rain and running run two of week one, that is what I call dedication, I just hope that the weather improves for run 3 of week 1

You’re right the support here is truly remarkable, it’s been invaluable to me too. Well done indeed for that early and in dismal conditions run today. Enjoy your running.

Great you've now completed wk1r2. It will take time but soon you won't be bothered what the weather is like , if it's your run day .

You're so right this forum is amazing and I've said it before I couldn't have done it without them. Well done you 😊😊

We've all been where you are, some more than once, so we know what you're going through and, as already said, we will support you as best we can.

It sounds really creepy but we are with you on every run you do, good or bad and there is one thing you really need to understand about running, if you go out and don't achieve what you planned to do then chalk it up as a practice, have a rest day and try again; the f word doesn't come into it.

Just take every run slow and steady, aim to complete the runs irrespective of the distance you cover or the speed you do it at, there's plenty of time for both distance and speed once you graduate.

Above all, try to enjoy the runs, that way it keeps them from becoming a chore.

I think getting up at 5.15am...whatever the weather to run is an amazing commitment and one you should be very proud of. I love running but eve that will not persuade me to get up early!!!

Rigpig profile image
RigpigGraduate in reply toLUHAN

I'm a morning person anyway so it's not that hard for me. If I didn't do this I would be sat on the couch reading emails or the news and drinking coffee. I know which is a more productive use of my time :-)

Lol! Well like you say...much better doing this than reading emails! Well done for your fab run today.

When you said you were a morning person I was thinking 8am. 5.15am is committed, and in the rain. Excellent job!

rigpig, i am an aberdeen beach dweller and this morning (6am) did w2r2......bloody freezing here now. I have got a touch of tendonitis (prob started too fast last week) but am already feeling some benefits....i slowed down a bit today, need to sort out landing on the right bit of my feet. Take it easy and keep it up seems to be working. i am also mid 50’s and too short for my current weight.

I think slow is genuinely the key to this. I spent around 15 years working out of Aberdeen in my offshore days, I know the beach pretty well :-)

Good work. That first run is painful. Glad you found r2 easier. Only advice I'd give, is dont get carried away. Take r3 steady and if you have anything left in the tank, push yourself at the very end. Then take 2 well deserved rest days to let your body repair itself.

I'm smiling at some of the other comments.... next time you go out, imagine we're all there in a pack following you 😆😆

Those days when you complete the run when not originally feeling up to it are the best and make the real difference.

I find morning runs/walks are the best and also do mine early (normally 4:30am starts). It gets some serious numbers on the steps and calorie counts before the day has really begun.

That's the ticket, well done 👍

You choose your days then run them regardless of weather, the only change is what you wear 😊

The only thing that stops me running is illness, injury or ice, hopefully there won't be much of any of them 😳

Good job 😀
