Welcome to the forum.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Over the years that I have followed this forum there have been graduates of all ages, weights, sizes, abilities and disabilities. They all had one thing in common.....they gave it a go.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
If your health issues affect your mobility or breathing then it may be worth checking out the suitability of C25k with your GP.
The guide above will give you all the basic info you need to get started and with the extra support of this forum, you could be about to make one of the best decisions you have ever made.
Enjoy your journey.
I'm on week 9 and I haven't lost much weight, probably because I didn't have much to lose. What the programme has done though is give me a positive outlook on life and my ability to manage my own health.
Take advice, check in with your doctor if you think it's wise, but most of all, do it - you know you want to!
Good luck
Welcome! I have various health niggles, asthma (the running is helping with this) a dodgy hip (not sure but think it's referred pain from back) dodgy knees (seem to be getting better with running) and various aches and pains from being nearer to 50 than 40 and almost 30 years nursing. I'm also carrying a couple of extra stones. Maybe have a discussion with your GP .I'm not sure if I've lost weight as I'm not really dieting but it is making me think about what I'm eating more at times.
When you start take it slow then go slower channel your inner snail 🐌. The app is amazing I really hated sport as a child (and adult!) But this is manageable it doesn't matter how long it takes to do the 9 weeks I'm at 5 months and counting. This forum is invaluable for advice and support. Let us know how you do.
Hi Kazza,
As already expressed, you could check with your doctor first. Whatever you do it’s vital that you read the guidance for newbies which IannodaTruffe gave you the link for. Stay hydrated - drink plenty of water every day not just running days. Don’t rush it - if you need extra rest days, take them and if you repeat runs, that’s fine too! If you’re not very fit and unsure about running, why not try it as a walking programme for the first week to see how you get on - in the 60 second running segments you could really step it out as a walk, anything to get you out there and doing something! Once you know you can do it, you could start again and run them. But we’ve all done it and we’re all shapes and sizes, no-one will stare or laugh and most will say ‘hallo’ as you pass. Take it slow and then slow down and you’ll be fine. Oh, and don’t forget to let us know how you get on- we’re all here cheering you on! Good luck and enjoy!
The programme is suitable for all, so that’s a bonus There are many advantages as you’ll find out. The emphasis is on going SLOWLY. By going slowly we buy time. Slow allows us to manage the sessions. Which is why it’s so fab.
You can improve your diet along the way. There are many positives from starting on this programme
I am nearly five stones lighter from overhauling myself. I can’t imagine a life without running in it, after starting to run with C25k
Good luck 😃👍
I'm very overweight have graduated the program and still love running , I'm very slow 5k in 40 minutes but I have taken the attitude at least I can do it , so go for it , slow and steady ,
I was going to do the programme on my own as my husband has back problems and thought he wouldn't be able to run. He soon got to feel left out and came with me but always with the attitude that if anything hurt beyond a niggle he would stop. We graduated in September and run 4k regularly (twice or 3 times per week) and Mr Goddess finds it has helped strengthen his muscles, taking some of the pressure off his back and easing his pain. Wear good shoes, take it SLOWLY and listen to your body. Most of all enjoy it😃
Hi. I am 1 week in and very overweight (4 stone to lose) with a bad back. I am in constant pain which has been getting steadily worse. My reason for wanting to lose weight is to hopefully help with the back pain.
I read lots of different posts and did lots of research before deciding which eating plan to choose. Having previously done Slimming World I know that carbs is my downfall.
So, last Tuesday I started on the LCHF and IF. I have lost 5lbs I. The first week and planned my meals for the upcoming week.
Exercise did not exist in my life, but I am trying to walk a small distance each day and will gradually build this up. I find it easier to walk pushing my grandson in his pushchair or the supermarket trolley.
Good luck with your journey x
Before I restarted the program in May, I used to get backache when I walked more than 5 minutes. I'm down over 4 stone now, through a mixture of running and diet, I'm nothing special and the diet I used I was very protein heavy with very little carbs.
I also eat some chocolate so I don't limit myself to just rabbit food.
