Now I know it's possible...

Nearly squeezed 1km into 6 minutes today ... my new record of a 6 min 6 second for 1 km happened between rain showers!

Sadly I sort of felt I was running "as fast as possible" unless lions and tigers were chasing me!

Found it tough on the breathing, so had to take a short 'rest' before turning round and slogging back up my slight incline (at a less ambitious pace). I'd only planned a short run today given the weather conditions.

So, now I know what (extremely fast pace) is needed to aim for a 30 min 5K (LOL)....

Perhaps next time I do a practise 5k I'll do a fast km then a slow one, then a fast to build up my stamina... and see how I get on!

DEFINATELY will be doing THAT on a continuous down gradient though!

Anyone got any lions or tigers I can borrow?

PB

I have a Jack Russell that doesn't like runners if that's any use to you 😊😊🐶

Like the sound of fast 1k slow 1k and keep going . 😊😊😊

You really have to go at some pace to get a sub 30 minute 5k or sub 60 minutes 10K, even for me who is achieving on a regular basis around 32 minutes for a 5K it seems impossible to get that magic at least to qualify 29.59 minute 5k.

Not counting parkrun where I don't know what my 1K split times are as I don't take my Smartphone with me, I have only ran 2 sub 6 minutes split 1K times, look it the other way, runners who consistently run +25, +20 or even +15 minute 5Ks are also a bit flustrated that the plus does not get to minus in those times.

Maybe think of the structure of your runs? 3 runs a week. 1 short 3k at tempo pace. 1 speed/interval session. 1 long easy run 7k.

That would build your stamina and your pace over a few months and help you with your 5k.

I dont have any lions but my neighbours got some rabbits I could sneak one out....

Don't worry about hitting 5k before you graduate, just aim to complete all the runs at a pace where you can hold a conversation.

Work on pace later.

Long ago when I first started running it took me about 18months of consistent training to break the 30mins for 5k. There is no rush! It will come naturally with consistent running
