Hi, I’ve just done my W1R2 this morning. I’m finding it hard but I’m egging myself on as I’m running. I currently have Jo as my coach but I don’t find her motivating at all. Who does everybody have and why?
Best coach?: Hi, I’ve just done my W1R2 this... - Couch to 5K
Best coach?
Hello, great for getting started. For me Laura is the best but that's because she got me running and I completed c25k with her. She is really motivating and her voice is so calming.
Remember to go slow and slower again if needed and keep well hydrated every day and not just on run days. Try and drink 2-3 litres of water per day . Good luck 😊😊
I had Sarah Millican cause she makes me laugh and I like a northern accent 🤣🤣 I'm also pretty sure she's never done the programme so I could give her a lot of back chat 👍🏻🤣 (Easy for you to say sat on yer bum etc!)
Make sure you read the guide so you're not working too hard
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
All the coaches give the same advice.
Enjoy your journey.
I listened to Laura on the podcast when I first started (only got to week 2 before injury), then Sarah my first time through (she didn't make as many jokes as I hoped) and then MJ (aka Mr Smooth) for my second time of doing the program (post injury). They all seem to have the same script though, so I guess it's whichever voice you find easiest to listen to. Loads of motivation to be found on this forum though so if you need a boost, keep reading and posting
You are a trollope! I had Laura throughout
I had laura on podcasts rather than the app. Great, got me graduated but happy to then leave headphones at home and just run for the joy of it
Hi Sam
I struggled with Michael last week, which was week 1 for me. I changed to Jo for W2R1 last night and we got on ok. The best advise I have had from the lovely folk in this group is to slow down. I’m already looking forward to tomorrow’s run.
Keep going, we can do this!!!
How did you feel on your first run? I cried and felt terrible when I got back. Didn’t feel so bad after today’s run. I’m not sure I can really call it running I’m that slow😀
Slow is good. I felt sick and was convinced I would die on my first run ... thankfully it got better. I look back at records and see I was running way too fast. It's not necessary. Honestly. Far better to enjoy it (or at least not hate it!)
W1R1 was tough and I almost didn’t bother with run 2 as I was in pain for 3 days, but the advise I got on here was slow down and drink plenty. Runs 2 and 3 seemed easier and W2R1 went well last night with only a little pain today. I’m not kidding myself it’s all going to be easy though. I still can’t believe I’m gonna be a 5k runner by Xmas, but I am!!! Hopefully.
Good luck.
I had Jo to start with, then Michael, and now I have Laura. I think they say pretty much the same thing, but there’s something about Laura - maybe because she’s done it herself. I do like to have something else for when the coach is quiet, particularly now the runs are getting longer. I tried the podcast, then Spotify, but now using a podcast player and random podcasts which are distracting from the task underway! Try a few things out and find what works for you 😁
Thanks everybody. I’ve changed coach to Sarah for my next run. I really like Jo on the radio but she is too chilled to give me any kind of motivation. I was even talking to myself on run5 of 8 today as I needed a kick up the ass. Still can’t quite believe I’m doing it!!!!
Excellent advice from Buddy but just to add Welcome and well done!! 🎈
Definitely Laura (with iTunes in the background) tried Sarah (for 2 mins of the warm up walk🤣🙈) but couldn’t get away with the fact she hadn’t done the programme. Good luck. 😍Cx
Jo for me, she’s got me to week nine!
