I'vejust completed the second week of C25k. I'm beginning to feel mild pain/discomfort at the back of both knees, but only when I walk. Will this be due to muscles building/recovering.

Knee Problems
Well done completing w2. Are you doing some stretching along with running? There is a separate forum for strength and flex
I’m sure you will find some great answers to this question on here and I hope that goes away soon enough for you to carry on
Well done on your progress.
The guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... has links to knee strengthening exercises and stretches which I would advise every runner to do immediately after every single run, as well as advice on minimising impact, which will also help.
The most important advice I can offer is to make sure that you are wearing proper running shoes fitted after a gait analysis done at a specialist running shop.
Hi there Boybiker ...ouch? Painful knees are such a hinderance...make sure you are stretching well before and after a run and if you feel like it might make a difference maybe think about wearing a support?? I have only one kneecap and I find that if and when I do get a niggle or pain in my kneecapless (that's not even a word!!) leg, wearing a support for a day or so is a huge help. Well done for getting to week 3, don't forget, your body is still getting used to something it may not have done before, or maybe not for a long time? Hope it doesn't last too long for you
Hi. Thanks very much for sharing your experience. I think it's difficult to be definitive when describing 'knee pain' its not really a sharp pain, it sometimes is and sometimes isn't, sometimes hurts here and some hurts there? My mother a Yorkshire woman used to say, "if the pain moves there's nowt much ails yer" I hope she's right.
I like your mum’s approach! 😄👍 But I would still follow the links from IannodaTruffe (above) and do the knee strengthening exercises. They are not hard if you don’t go at it too fiercely in the beginning, and over time they certainly helped me ward off knee trouble. 🎉
Normal in weeks 2-3. Ibuprofen. It’ll go in a week or so. I ran through it by taking pain killers an hour before running but some say rest.
I won't run with aches and pains so I've been leaving two days to recover rather than the recommended one. It's taking me longer to complete the programme, but I figure after waiting 60 years, a few extra weeks won't make much difference.
My main goal is to still be able to run 5k when I'm 70.
