Wasn’t looking forward to start run today as I struggled with week 1 but actually enjoyed the run, drank a glass of water and used a knee support, the sun was shining and good music , so pleased 😀. Wanted to ask I do a lot of walking don’t get knee pain but I’ve tried unsuccessfully the gym and hill walking and now jogging (jog is slower than my walking 🥴) but afterwards I struggle for a few days walking up stairs and even changing gears while driving , I’m trying a knee support see if that helps but any other suggestions would be great as don’t want to give up as set a goal to run a 5k thanks x

Have you seen your doctor?
There are some strengthening exercises, maybe he could send you to a physio or give you some exercises?
Knee supports are usually all it takes but if your still sore you would be better seeing your doctor 😊
I added the strength and flex programme and my knees stopped hurting for the first time in 30 years. Any strengthening work helps, the knee is also impacted by core strength/stability when we run, and every muscle in the legs being stronger will help.
If you’re doing any pre run stretches, make sure they are dynamic ones... the static ones can cause injury if cold, but more specifically for the knee even if you did them warm, the stretching temporarily reduces stability in the joints which you don’t want to have happen just before you run.
A physio is worth a visit if you have an existing condition or injury history to advise which exercises to do and any to avoid.
If you are already a walker, a careful build up with running / jogging (or in my case shufflejog - which is really ungainly and slow) will help strengthen your knees!
I've had knee problems due to lots of dancing in my youth, and a few years ago did Zumba and wore a knee support, and found that after a few weeks of regular use my knee actually got better... similarly with C25K (after slacking off from my zumba fitness year(s)) I felt that my legs and knees were/are getting stronger.
Certainly doing knee-strenthening exercises as well could be a good idea! Oh, and to help with the (current/temporary) pain, take anti inflamitories, like ibuprofen... just don't take longer than a few days without talking to your doctor, but if it reduces any inflamation, and you continue to strengthen with running the result may well work out well for you.
