Thursday W9R3 Sunday 5K race with 1600 others

So pleased with myself. 9 weeks ago the closest I got to running was walking on a treadmill for 10 mins. At W5 of this plan I got an email saying there were still places in the River Ness 5K race which is part of the Baxters Loch Ness marathon weekend. I worked out this would be around graduation day - not understanding graduation meant running 30mins not 5K. I stuck to the plan and all the advice given. Luckily the 5K is actually 4.9K as all advice says only increase one thing by 10%per week. I completed in 32min 44sec so happy. Running amongst 1600 was challenging as very many were children holding parents hands, some being dragged along from the start - I hope they aren't put off running for life. This course is brilliant, we are all great for starting it. We all need to find our own speed. Every person in today's race was cheered on whether they were doing a PB or finishing in an hour. Go out, run, enjoy. Thanks for your support. X

Congratulations to you Grannytobe on running the River Ness 5K in Inverness, good time for you as well.

Yesterday at parkrun I met a runner who told me she was running the 10K in Inverness today.

Nearly 10000 competitors over the 3 events today and after a night of heavy rain it stopped for the start of the races, sun working hard at coming out now - a the highlands, 4 seasons in a day.

Thank you! Yes, it is a beautiful beach prom and path through the dunes. I often encounter little rabbits waking up & of course lovely sunrises. However I think it maybe a rainy ☔️🌧💦 finish tomorrow 😂 so may do my other route through the park. X

What a way to end the last run of the programme, and the start of the rest of your running career! Well done on both achievements.

Definitely. That’s one of the attractions for me - you can run at any time of the day, anywhere to choose from and it’s free!!! I’m so glad I started this running malarkey 😀

Went past my old gym on Friday - the sense of release is immense never mind the savings in time to get there and cost of membership 😀

Can you believe what we are all achieving. Really looking forward to just going out and running without headphones telling me what to do. I’ll just set garmin to 5k and go enjoy some scenery. Bliss.
