Running after a flu

Hi everyone!

I completed R3W5 and did the 3rd run (20 mins straight) twice, as the app suggested. It went pretty well and I was very pleased with myself! Did my last run Sunday, and then came down with a flu (runny nose, sore throat, overall felt a bit weak but nothing dramatic). My question is, I’m afraid going straight back to week 6 might be a bit too much (although I’m very eager to run and I’ve missed it this week), shall I go for it or go back a bit? Thank you

Hi Tetti,

Hope you’re feeling better now.

I’d carry on where you left off and see how it goes. I understand from wise folk on here that you’re unlikely to lose any fitness unless you have a break of 2 weeks or more.

Go for it!

Thanks very much! I am feeling much better, and I think going back to running will help me recover faster (at least I hope so). I’ll go for it ! X

If your feeling fit and well you should be able to continue to wk6 . It's totally up to you though what you feel is right for you. Good luck 😊

I’d set off to do a week 6 run, but allow yourself to stop sooner if your body tells you to.

Doesn't sound as though it was full blown flu, so I agree with the others that you can just do your next run and see how it goes. Definitely start off very gently... and maybe not until you've had a walk one day and feel OK the next morning?

I doubt you'd even be thinking of running yet if it had been a full blown flu this week, and running too soon after one of those certainly can be lethal.
