My motivation to run

β€’14 Replies

I commented on a post on here recently about my motivation for running πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ and wanted to write something as a β€˜memo’ for me. It might feel familiar to some of you or might light a spark...

I run to get away from everything else!

When I started the couch to 5k plan, on 20th July, my husband had left me a few weeks before πŸ˜” We’d had summers full of achievements (mountain climbing mainly) and I wanted to create my own goal. I’d seen this app and my thoughts around running stemmed from awful school cross country runs.

I was lost and unfit so gave this a go!

I’ve learnt so much about myself 😁 Mainly the hard way-I’ll never eat a bacon and egg sandwich before a run again πŸ˜‚

When I run, I can’t reply to anything other than my body or my 8 year old daughter on her bike/running buddy. I love it so much! I’m free ❀️

I run close to beaches and feel so lucky every time I’m out. I’ve seen the most amazing sunsets and shared most of them with my daughter πŸŒ…

Our bond has become closer than ever, we’ve learnt our new way of life together and I will always be thankful to couch to 5k for that πŸ™πŸ»

I’m on W8R3 tomorrow. I know I’ll always be learning and achieving now I have running. I’ve yet to experience running in the rain πŸŒ§πŸ˜‚

And to all of you on here-running really does give us the gift of life. Use it well πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ₯°

You should be very proud of your achievements. It must be great having your daughter cycle next to you on your runs. It shows that you can do anything if you put the effort in . Well done you 😊😊

Thanks Buddy 😁

Very nice words ☺️

I like the challenge of running and the fact that it takes me away from everything a few times a week. I used to be into body building and I'm a qualified fitness instructor, but I got arthritis and it put a stop to it all. So I decided to try running again after a 30 year break from it and guess what, no arthritic pain at all.. Happy days 😁 I'm glad I tried it again because now I gave focus and a challenge which I have always aspired to.

I haven't tried a bacon and egg sandwich before a run and going by your experience I won't be trying it either πŸ˜‚

As for running in rain, I remember running in it and snow 30 years ago and I remember that I enjoyed it, it was another kind of challenge but a good one.

Anyway,

I enjoyed reading your post it was very nice.

Enjoy your day.

C25K is a great way to discover the latent abilities that lie dormant until we test them..........

............running will keep on giving.

Keep running, keep smiling.

It’s been a tough time then, running and following the plan takes up a lot of mind space for a while and gives the rest time to. rest

It’s been an amazing journey for you and well done for not wallowing on the couch with a bottle of wine drowning your sorrows, to get out and run takes courage and determination which makes you awesome, sharing with your daughter is building such a bond also, I really admire you

in reply to SueAppleRun

Thank you πŸ™πŸ» I will admit-a bottle of wine on the couch was my first coping strategy. Since starting the plan though, I’ve not drunk any alcohol! Even on my birthday-I wanted to run and knew that alcohol would affect it (I can’t imagine running with a groggy head!).

The benefits really are endless 😁
