Just wanted to pop on and say thanks and offer words of encouragement to people just starting.
1 year ago I started c25k - I started because I hated running.
It made me feel sick, gave me asthma, I didn't like the jiggling, jarring and aching.
I was past 40 and wanted to do something outside my comfort zone and 'running' was something way way outside anything comfortable! Plus I was hoping I might get a bit fitter and keep up with the boys.
The first run was hard! I sneaked out early in the morning - running for 1 min was tough! I felt like I was going to be sick, I was sweaty, out of breath and looked like I'd boiled my head. But app helped was very encouraging so I did run 2, and then 3 and 4 and well kept going!
The 5 k graduation felt so good I loved that I could keep up with the boys.
I stopped drinking... Just didn't want it any more (The running high was way better) With the running and no alcohol I lost weight. That made the running easier too and the easier it got the more I liked it, and the more I ran.
I passed my 10k goal earlier this year and now run around 100k each month. I'm fitter than I've ever been, Asthma has improved so has my outlook on life and motivation.
It's also had the added bonus of guilting my hubby to get fit too so we now all have bikes. The kids have come on board as well they love cycling and will come along for a 5k run too
So thanks c2k5 I never imagined I'd become a 'runner' and if your just starting keep going... it gets better much better!
