Last Wednesday I completed my very first official 10K race ! It was round the iconic Silverstone race track. I only entered on the night of the race along with the Goodgym team I run with on a Tuesday night ( Goodgym is a community based volunteering group that perform tasks and good deeds for local volunteer groups, we run to the task do whatever is required and run back. It is only an hour and a half a week and is a great way to run with a group. This is nation wide take a look at their website!
Anyway back to the race . I was very anxious and it was with encouragement from my best friend I entered on the night . Shaking putting the number on my t shirt off I went.
With approximately 1243 runners and many supporters off I went . I got to 5k without stopping which is excellent for me as I am always battling with my head that I need to stop . People were actually finishing !!
Not to be deterred I carried on breaking the run down in bits round corners to the next stand and so on . Each KM marker was a great relief. I still handnt stopped at 7k . I still felt ok thinking to myself i could now possibly do it
8k really tired and along came the good old rain which was great as I was so hot although it soon turned into hail with a side wind not so good . All I thought at this point was the quicker I could go the quicker it was done . The relief in seeing the finish line was a bit overwhelming as was crossing the finish line to lots of applause from the kind and enthusiastic Marshallβs . Once I got myself together I soon discovered I had even PB !
But I got more pleasure out of managing it without stopping. Anyone that is thinking of doing their first race whatever distance it is get out there and go for it π have the belief in yourself
My final position was 1044 and time was 1.04.03
I hope this inspires someone to have a go like I did. The feeling is so good crossing that finishing line .
