Today I registered on the Parkrun website and I have planned my runs around work (i travel a lot) so that I can have 2 rest days next week and then do my first parkrun on Saturday 14th..... I am quite confident that I won't be running the whole 5k however next Wednesday I should complete W5R3 and I am confident that I will be able to run for the 20 minutes now I have got my 'slow and steady' sorted. With this in mind I plan on meeting the people at my local parkrun and giving it a go for 'slow and steady' for as long as I can do then walking/jogging until I get to the end but most of all enjoying the motivation and love I now have for getting out there for a run!

Brilliant, when you go to parkrun just do the run you would be on that day and if you need to walk that ok as well. Good luck 😊

Thanks Buddy, I just really want to spend some time with other runners... my partner and friends are supportive of me taking up running but I don't know anyone else who actually goes out for a run.

I was planning on repeating the W5R3 run to get me around the course and then just walk/jog to the finish line rather than starting the W6 runs as I am saving them for the following week :)

Good idea. I also run on my own so parkrun is great that there are lots of runners to join you 😊

If you go to the same parkrun each week you will get to know the regulars. The saying goes that birds of a feather flock together. And that is very true at parkrun from my experience. There is a group of around 20 at my local parkrun and they finish anywhere between 17 to 40 minutes. They meet up as a running group twice during the week and they run at parkrun every Saturday. They wear matching t-shirts and go off for breakfast together. They are rowdy, chatty and great fun and all in their 50’s. I have also met a group of about 10 from parkrun and we sometimes meet at 8am on a Sunday morning for a long run. I’ve been living in my locality for 17 years now and I have met and got to know so many lovely people through running and as a result I feel very much part of the community.

Enjoy, it’s a great way to meet people from your local community.

While you are the c25k programme, it is advised to just do the normal run for that day. So start near the back and set your app/podcast from the start with your 5 minute walk , 20 minute run, and then walk to the end. It is very supportive and very addictive. Have fun.

Enjoy. They are great. I’m always in the last few to finish but that doesn’t matter. The important thing is to get out there and do it.
