I have hurt my knee!!!!!

I was doing so well and feeling really good about my couch 2 5k journey. Then at the beginning of the week I felt an odd twinge in my knee. Managed to run Monday night ( week 4 run 1) all ok then Tuesday it felt worse. Went on Wednesday night and had to stop during the last 5 min run. Today I'm in agony. I cant bend it at all. It hurts walking up and down stairs and when I bend down to do something it nearly gives way. I'm so flipping disappointed as I think I'm going to have to quit and recover. Am I being over the top. I mentioned it to the guy who runs the session and he didnt seem overly worried. Just told me to go easy and run on the grass. Help and guidance needed πŸ˜₯

Hiya. I'm no medical expert but I would suggest a couple of days to recover. But don't quit. Not after you've got this far.

If you are in agony as you say you should definitely not run at all. The way your describing It actually sounds if you need to see a medical professional. .

I'm not an expert by any means but I don't know why someone would tell you to run on the grass or any surface . Good luck and let us know how you get on 😊😊

It sucks when injury occurs, but it also teaches us a lesson. Had the same kind of thing myself and it took a while to heal but I did go on to finish the program so don't give up.

I'd give it a few days using the RICE method to aid recovery and see if it improves. If it doesn't improve I'd go see the doc to get it checked out.

Welcome to the forum.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on pacing, minimising impact, stretching after every run and dealing with injury, all of which may be helpful.

If it persists see your GP or physio.

Take care.

Disappointing I know! Quitting not needed just a big hug and recovery time. Follow all the advice for injury and you will soon be back on track & smiling again!!

Thanks for all your kind messages. It's still very sore. I've been putting ice packs on and elevating the leg but not able to rest 2 much with 2 children. Its definitely worse in the afternoon/ evening when I've been on my feet all day. Last night was so sore I had to get up and take some ibuprofen as I couldnt get over to sleep with the throbbing. I'm not able to do my 3rd run this week which is making me panic a bit as the pace is getting tougher now and I'm Worried I'm going to struggle. I'll just rest it as much as I can and hope it doesn't interfere to much with training πŸ˜”
