Started C25K last year on September 1st. Goal was to graduate then go to Parkrun. Graduated and did lots of consolidation. Felt chicken about Parkrun because I read the results page - so many under 30 mins- and realised I knew some people that I'd feel embarrassed to see me running slowly! But then in May I hurt my Achilles, which has taken forever to heal, and every time I tried to start running, I knew it wasn't right. Physio son said to walk with very short runs, so did that, still on my own, and walked any time there was a twinge.
Then met someone who's been really very ill but who was talking about enjoying walking the Parkrun. Right! I can do that. I'll walk at the back with her. So, my first Parkrun has happened, I did run some, the embarrassing people were away, the friend outran me - good on her - and my age related score was 47.33%, even though I came in near the end! Hey, the benefits of being older! Can now cope with meeting the embarrassing people! I understand one nearby Parkrun has no walkers but ours had quite a lot who took walking breaks. At the back is a guy who walks on sticks. His speed and strength are so improved that he did a little run on Saturday. An inspiration! So, I achieved my goal to do the Parkrun but, "sort of" refers to the real goal, to run it all with Achilles fully fit.
