Managed W2R1 but...

Thanks all for the support so far. Really helpful. I managed the 90 second runs today of week 2 and didn’t find the cardio part as hard as I thought. However the pain in my ankles is really sore and that’s what makes me want to stop running. Any ideas???? TIA

This can happen to new runners, just gradually increase your pace, run slower than you have been recently and the soreness should gradually decrease.

Thank you. I’m not sure it’s possible to run slower but I’ll try!!

Try these ankle exercises..

active.com/running/articles...

Huge well done to you.

I am assuming you have checked out the FAQ for runners... and have made sure you have the correct shoe for your running:)

Try to land lightly and not to thump don..( any of us do that when we first begin)

Take it ever slow and steady and relax...you are doing just fine:)

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I think I probably am landing too hard. I’ll check out those exercises too. 😊

Have you read the guide to the plan? healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

It includes advice on pacing and minimising impact, both of which will help, if followed.

Thank you. I hadn’t read this until you said but it was really interesting and helpful. I think I need to sort my shoes out too.

Try and lessen the impact on your joints when you land, you may be trying too hard to "run". You may need a shorter stride, with your foot more underneath you, not extended forward (you shouldn't be landing heel first). Take your time, Oldfloss and Truffe are very wise, so follow their links. If you are having problems, shoes that give the right support are really important. Shops aimed at runners can be helpful at sorting that out. Make sure you keep a recovery day between your run days, so those ankles can recover. Don't give up yet!

Thank you. Not giving up - just about to go on next run. Am a bit scared as ankles hurt now after a rest day. But will follow the advice I’ve had and run slower with a shorter stride and see how it goes.
