..but it was tough today...

I'm lucky enough to live just 5 mins walk from the park where my local Parkrun takes place, so I've been able to run parts of the Parkrun route during my C25K training. So far, I've been trying to keep to the mainly flat and downhill parts of the route, but there are three fairly significant uphill parts of the actual Parkrun.

I was running with my sister again today and we decided to try including those uphill bits in our run, since our ultimate aim is to take part in the Parkruns. It's the first time I've really attempted any proper uphill running and it was so difficult! Today was the first day (since my first, terrible, attempt at W1 R1) that I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to complete the run.. the last 60 seconds of the final five minute run were absolute torture! I did it though!

I didn't enjoy today's run to be honest, and I didn't get that feeling of elation upon completion that I have done previously, but I'm putting it behind me, and already thinking ahead to my next run after tomorrow's rest day! Onwards and upwards!

Run 1 of week 6 is not the easiest run of C25K, so it understandable that you found it hard, it does catches out some people with the interval walks and runs after the non stop 20 minutes of W5R3, run 2 of week 6 is the last run with interval walks and runs, after that all of the runs are non stop beginning with run 3, the first of 4/25 minute runs.

You are so lucky on having a parkrun only a 5 minute walk away from your home. 😊

Yep, you're absolutely right. I felt that those interval runs in weeks 1 to 5 have really built up my confidence (and stamina!) to tackle the longer runs, but once I'd done the 20 minute run, I found that it was hard to get into a nice rhythm when doing the interval runs again. Still looking forward to doing W6 R2 though!

Yes, I do feel lucky - it's a really lovely big park, and I've been walking my dog in there for years. :)

Wk6 r1 and 2 do seem a bit tough but don't worry and trust the plan. You're doing great 😊

I felt the same. After doing the 20 min run I was looking forward to the next two runs but week six run 1 was the worst. My legs felt so heavy - I managed it but almost put me off. Missed a couple of days cos was so demoralised and thought maybe I wasn’t well but didn’t want to feel like that again. Decided to start week five again and now am looking forward (!) to week six run 1 tomorrow.

Good luck with rest of it

Yes, I know just what you mean - I'd been looking forward to W6 R1 and 2, so it was a bit demoralising to find it so tough. Good luck with your return to W6!
