5th and last Parkrun...

Until next week! 🤣

After my extremely difficult run on Wednesday, I decided to run and walk today. A good decision, as the sun quickly became very hot , even before we started. I had also decided that I wouldn’t care about pace, let alone a PB.

My running buddy and I set off, and, as usual, she shot off ahead of me. She is nearly 71, but runs more like a five year old. 🙄 I assumed my usual pace of joffling, and managed that for about ten minutes, before deciding to give in and walk. This pattern deteriorated as the kms passed, as I was tired. My intervals of run and walk almost became even at times.

Halfway round the course, I caught up with a man running with two huskies, dogs which are renowned for running and endurance. One of them had stopped for a poo, and the man, being a model citizen, was waiting, bag in hand, to clear up after his canine. Before I got to him, he turned to walk back to the bin, to deposit aforementioned poo, but the pooer had other ideas. He sat down and refused to budge. The man started to cajole, then berate his hound, who promptly lay down. The man started to pull the dog, which slid gracefully over the long grass, towards the bin. I called to the man that at last, I had found my soulmate, my spirit animal, as at that point, I would have loved to have had a lie down.

The rest of the run was uneventful, and I carried on with my intervals, even managing a sprint to the finish. My running buddy was waiting for me, and ran with me to the end, goading me on to run faster. Little monkey!

Anyway, the interesting part of the story is, that although I walked briskly at least half of the way, I still got a PB! Now where is the logic in that? 🤔 Maybe I was able to run faster in between my walks? Maybe I should give up running and take up power walking, as I was obviously faster!

Next week, our club is volunteering, so I shall be marshalling the runners, clapping and cheering them on, a vital role for people who struggle like me. The following week, I shall be back with a vengeance! In the meantime, I will be taking a week off to rest. My running legs are still baby legs, and I have been hammering them since graduation. I shall pop by to see how things are going, though, so no slacking, okay? 🤣🤣🤣

My 'running' is about the same speed as my walking. I too got a PB today, but only by a few seconds. Yet I ran all the way, for the first time, so clearly my running is no faster than my walking.

Amazing you got a pb when some of your route was walking and yes a rest sounds like a good idea. 😊😊
