Hafan Pwllheli Parkrun VRB Meetup Anyone?

This Saturday (3rd August) we’re meeting up with Oldfloss at Hafan Pwllheli parkrun on North Wales’ Lleyn Peninsula. It is a very unusual course as it is (I think) currently the only parkrun along a beach (please feel free to let me know if there are any others!). This does make for trickier running but it also looks a lot of fun! It’s quite a new course and I suspect this time of year it has it’s biggest attendances (c140 last week). There is a car park right next to the entrance to the beach and a lovely cafe by the harbour for a post run natter afterwards.

If anyone is in the area or can travel along to it and fancies trying it out, it would be fantastic to meet you 😀

One I can’t do TC. Off to a wedding (plus it’s a tad far, even for me!) Have fun, and don’t forget the pics. 😀👍🏃‍♀️🏃

Of course (although it may have to wait for a decent data signal to post anything!). It is a bit off the beaten track for most people I suspect but it’s worth a shout 😀 Have a lovely wedding x

It’s the only uk mainland beach parkrun for sure... think the biggest South African one is on a beach and something tells me there’s one on a Scottish island, but I could be wrong.

Anyways... wrong week for me, I was in snowdonia for 10 days and returned home yesterday... have a great meet up and run.

Aww, cheers UNM. That’s a shame but it looks like it was a good week to be in the mountains judging by a friend’s holiday photos on top of Snowdon.

There are so many new parkruns springing up I’m not surprised it’s not the only one. I’d be surprised if there’s not one in Australia as well.

Check the tide table and prepare accordingly... if high tide is 9 you’re running in some very soft sand... mid tide and the camber on the beach is strange... I’d love to run it at low tide... but then it would probably not be 5k... great opportunity for a parkrun PB though 🤣

Sadly I didn’t get up Snowdon as I was busy clearing and levelling a garden, building sheds and chopping trees down (planted some too to make up for them) all week... going back later in the summer to lay a couple of patios, and hoping I can get some free time in that trip to get up that hill.

Edit... just checked, high tide is 09:38 this Saturday

Wow, guess you weren’t on holiday then? What a surrounding to work in though, it’s so breathtaking round there.

As for the parkrun, thanks for that, we’ll just see how it goes, it’s going to be a challenge whatever the conditions 😊

It’s fun... but that sand isn’t the easiest surface... OldFloss can reenforce the slow and steady mantra in the warm up though!!

It was a kind of holiday... but one that I need a vacation after 🤣.

High Tide on Sat 3rd is 10.24.. so may be okay.. the Saturday I ran it..the tide was right in...hence my post following the run! took me 40+ minutes!! Like running through deep , deep , deep soft heavy whatever... ! x

Did you run it last Saturday? I was there: got talking to a dad and daughter at the end about how tough it was: I’m sure he said he was from Derbyshire?? How bizarre if I’d been chatting to you unknowingly 😂

My word! It was me who pointed out she had sand in her hair. Wow. Fancy meeting and not knowing!! What a very small world this is 😊

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply tomolly1973

Think she had more sand on her than was on the run when she got back to the car 🤣

Portrush in N Ireland is all on the beach too, apparently

I forgot that one... world’s oldest all beach parkrun

TailChaserGraduate in reply toUnfitNoMore

Yep, AlMorr pointed out that one on the B210k forum. Apparently there was some footage of it during the golf recently.

I can’t believe you two bumped into each other without knowing you were both forumites, that’s really funny 😂

I stayed in Anglesey to see my friend do Man Vs Mountain.. he ran up Snowdon. It's the only time I've been to Wales, it's absolutely beautiful around there, I really enjoyed it.. The CASTLES! How can anyone that's ever been a child not love castles like that.. I'd love to go back. That looks like a brilliant parkrun, enjoy it!

Thanks clubberlang. Yes! They are proper castles, all turrets and broken bits with big stories behind them. I especially like Harlech as it’s at the top of a whopping great hill (steepest road in the world apparently). How can anyone ‘run’ up Snowdon though 😱 (mind you in Runners World this month there is someone running along Crib Goch during the Dragons Back Race, that is particularly bonkers). You must go again one day, it is magical, especially Snowdonia!

I am on holiday here now and will still be here on Saturday but not sure if we are free. I ran this parkrun last Saturday and it was really tough (I posted about it at the time). I’m trying not to let my running encroach on the holiday too much but if we don’t have morning plans on Saturday I’ll try to be there 👍

It would be lovely to meet you molly. I’ll have to search your post out. We’ve been promising Floss we’d go for months as we’re up there each summer holiday so we know the beach well. We’ve walked as far as it goes in the past and that’s tough enough so it’s going to be er... ‘interesting’!

I’ve just got back from a scramble down Snowdon and my knee is vey grumpy! It was ok after last week’s parkrun on the beach but has got niggly through the week so today was difficult. We don’t have plans yet for tomorrow morning so if I can pop along I will but I won’t be running. I’ll let you know x

TailChaser profile image
TailChaserGraduate in reply tomolly1973

Okey doke Molly. I hope you can make it but you don’t want to make that knee worse x

It’s a long way from most places tbh Tasha, it takes us ages too but then we go there on holiday so it’s worth the journey
