First Parkrun

Hi All

Big thanks to everyone who's been recommending Parkrun - I went along this morning and had a great time. People were welcoming (I got a little cheer along with the other newbies), the course was fun (if muddy) and it was great to grab a coffee with friendly runners afterwards in the clubhouse.

I finished in 27.14, which is not much slower than I usually run so I was very happy with that as well.

I'll definitely be back next week.

Twenty seven 14 is a very respectable time for first time out. You'll probably knock a bit off next time you go simply because you know your way round and know how far it is to the finish (the first time I entered, the finish kind of snuck up on me - I thought it was 400 yards further on so didn't put in a final sprint - that didn't happen 2nd time out...).

That's pretty good going.

Thanks! The course is two-laps-and-a-bit so there's potential for a grandstanding sprint finish next time. :)

Well, if you like running round in laps you should try the Highbury Fields, Islington parkrun (not too far from you if your username reflects your location). It's 5 laps and then shoot off into a finish tunnel in the middle of the biggest piece of mud and bog around. I've only done it the once, but was starting to make me feel dizzy. Just about everyone gets lapped and it's mayhem trying to work out how many more laps you have to go.

Well done! Glad you enjoyed it. I did my very first parkrun too today and I'll write up a review and post it a little later.

Bril - well done. (I always thought your name was Action High St until I saw AdamB's comment!)

Thanks all - having read Rob's post I should name the run shouldn't I? It was Wormwood Scrubs, if anyone fancies a run in West London.

Wow! Great time, and I'm sure you'll be improving on that as you get familiar with the course.
