Parkrun-ner... :)

Just a quick update to say, last Saturday, I completed my first Parkrun - and how much I enjoyed it! We were on a long weekend away for the Bank Holiday, so I started off my Parkrunning as a Tourist, at St Mary's Parkrun in Bridport, finishing in 00:33:02, which I was happy with.

Not the easiest course, which is very tight and has one very short but really nasty hill, as well as one out and back on the same narrow path. It bottlenecked on me more than once which meant I had to slow down, some.

They were only having their ninth event, but I have to say how well organised and attended it was. A really good intro for all of us newcomers to the course (there were a vast amount of tourists in attendance) along with the other two there who were also having their first Parkrun, even having a really nice and big course layout diagram.

The welcome received for us Parkrun debutantes was fantastic, as well as the one runner from Johannesburg, SA, as were all the Marshalls and Volunteers throughout.

I'm heading to my local Parkrun this weekend and already can't wait. Easy to see why so many have really gotten into these.

Thanks again for all the help and advice received here. The response to my last post was excellent and left me with plenty of food for thought on how I proceed now post-C25k.

Keep on running!

Scott

Great on doing your first parkrun . I also did my first last Saturday. It was just a bit strange as I always run on my own and to suddenly run with over 200 people was odd and yes very well organised . 😊

I was in exactly the same boat, Buddy. I fell into running the pace of those around me for the first minute, even though I'd kept myself towards the back to try and avoid that very thing. Wasn't helped in this instance with how tight the course was, but something we have to get used to I guess.

What I liked about the parkrun I done was it was flat . It really made a difference as all my runs have inclines and hills .

So happy to know that you enjoyed your first parkrun last Saturday, I am sure you will be able to run a sub 30 minute 5k when there are no tight bends, narrow paths or nasty hills

What a great idea - when away for the weekend do a park run. A bit slow but that’s such a great idea.

When I visit my mum she has v limited mobility and it gets a bit frustrating sitting around all day - but now I can do a park run!

Thank you for sharing 😁

Enjoy your second parkrun tomorrow. Friday will forever be known as parkrun eve. I’m looking forward to more parkrun tourism tomorrow. I’ve got a bit carried away with traveling to different parkrun courses. I have not missed a parkrun in ages but have not been to my home parkrun in 6 weeks. I’ll have to return and volunteer soon.

Parkrun No.2 this morning, first at my local event, and a new P.B of 00:31:20 (00:31:28 Parkrun time). Finished strong and only one consolidation run left before I start upping my distance. Very happy!
