W5 R1 and I think I have become someone who enjoys running 😮

I mean, not quite as much as sitting in the garden with an Aperol spritz and a good book, but even so.

I found weeks 1 -3 really bloody hard. As well as being horrifically anxious and self-conscious about exercising in public, I couldn’t pace myself, had horrific knee and shin pain and my right leg kept going numb. I cried before/after running on more than one occasion and I had to repeat loads of the runs. But then I got to week 4 and ... it was fine?! Managed all the runs with no real bother. Just done W5 R1 and honestly really enjoyed it, even though my last five minutes was mostly uphill (poor planning on my part). I can’t wait to go out again and even if W5 R2 proves too hard I won’t mind - I’ll just keep trying. I really feel like I’ve turned a corner here, and finally can run at the age of 43 despite never having been able to do it before 😮

Well done you! It’s scary when you struggle and think you will never do it - especially if you know marathon runners like I do - but slow and steady will get you there. If it takes 9 weeks or 90 weeks I’m now determined I will do it and i get the feeling you will too x
