Well my 5th consolidation run now has the award for worst run ever, got to 20 mins and had to stop, couldn’t get my pace right, couldn’t get my breathing right and the pain in my hip and inner thigh went passed being a niggle 😫😫😫😫😫 the run bunnies have truly forsaken me!!! My progress has been halted in its tracks!

Well tomorrow is another day. Keep strong, all will be well. Even seasoned runners have bad days.

Not halted, just paused. Sounds like that niggle needs a nurture and then you’ll be back on it for sure 👍🏻

Really don't worry. We all have the occasional really horrible run. Look at it this way: you ran for twenty minutes so that's twenty more minutes in the legs. Have a day or two off. Then pick a route you love and a time of day that suits you and just set off for a gentle run. If when you have consolidated you feel like starting the bridge to 10k plan you will find that one of your runs every week is a twenty minuter! You've done c25k so you've totally got this!

I was thinking of doing the bridge to 10K but this run has properly knocked my confidence, the hip/groin pain really didn’t help but I don’t want to stop and loose momentum

Maybe give yourself a few days longer as a rest to meet the hip thing settle. Then go out very slowly. If it's still bothering you find yourself a sports physio and get some good advice!

Thank you for the advice, I think it does need resting if my job allows it, thing is I’ve begun wishing away my rest days and wanting to run more than I want to rest!! Bloody running bug 😂😂😂

Bit dramatic mate!

Check your pace. Setting off only slightly faster can have disastrous effects. Continuing to run on an existing injury is also not a good idea.

As for 10K, that’s a much easier jump than the C25K.

Nothing like being dramatic after a rubbish run 😂😂😂

I too have mixed feelings and running problems since graduating and today was only my first consolation run. What ever you say to yourself there is a big vacuum because you will never do c25k for the first time ever again. Looking around I think I might do a modified ju ju's magic to get to and maintain a good 5k.

Problem is we won,t have the whisper in the ear keeping us going and making us feel part of a group. Like growing up I suppose we have to stand or run alone. The upside is that there is always the next run and just maybe it will be the perfect run.

It really helped me to read and get involved in this forum. It's great to feel that there are other people who know what you are on about and it helps to fill the gap left by the absence of Sarah millican in my case! I still sometimes use her on my 30 minute runs just to keep me company!

Hip issues? You've got the right shoes with insoles and you run slow? If your shoe isn't to your foot's liking and you set off a tad faster than your cardio enjoys it, you will suffer, make no mistake.

Have had my gait analysis done and have had my lovely new trainers since week 5 with no problems and set off at my usual pace (I was on a treadmill so it was spot on) the hip issue started after being at a job for 7 hours in fire gear and boots think I’ve just probably strained it a tad 🤪🤪

That could explain it. The thing with treadmill vs outdoors, you would have naturally slowed down had you run outside and ran within your comfort zone, or stopped. When you 'tell' the machine its speed, it goes and we go with it, like it or not. We can fiddle with the settings but where's joy in that.. When you run outdoors you always start at speed that reflects your current physical/mental condition, l find that much easier to manage. Slow or fast, all changeable on a whim.

Ah rich I’m sorry that last run was crap. But remember what you said to me? next one will be better! Give yourself a bit more rest time. I was so disappointed when I had to rest my knees for a couple of weeks but now, touch wood, not a single problem with them since. Keep positive buddy, you can absolutely get through this little bump ok? 👍🏻

Thanks Tee, seems I’m not too good at heeding my own advice 😂 but I am a bloke so that’s my excuse 😂😂😂

I’ll let you have that one this time, but it’s a one time pass! 😜

Yep. Never read instructions, always know best, blah blah blah! You sound just like my hubby! I’ve learned that crap runs are a part of life. Just nurture yourself more, super-hydrated, rested, nourished, etc., before going out again. If pain problems persist, go and see a sports physio! (Retired nurse talking here!) If something doesn’t go away, there is an underlying problem that needs fixing, preferably by someone who understands running. Most GPs don’t. Good luck, chum, and let us know how you get on.
