unable to run since c25k graduation

I did a big push to complete the programme on 10th July with the last 6 runs in 12 days, feeling very positive although not easy, and followed up with 28k and 34k walks on 11 and 13 July.

After a couple of rest days, I tried to run again but could only do about 15 minutes before feeling muscles are too sore, especially quadriceps.

I tried epsom salt baths, and also deep heat and after seeing some tips here I bought a "foam roller" which was indeed agony to use on affected muscles but not sure anything is helping.

I'm still doing light walking 5-10k daily but don't feel able or inclined to run at all.

Any tips?

Stop walking and do for a day or so too. Maybe you just need a break? I also swear by cold water baths - yes, sorry! Submerge your legs for 5-8 minutes. You can wear a fleece and a hat 🤣 It’s not so bad - you go numb in seconds. Also, drink plenty of water as lack of hydration can cause heavy legs.

thanks, yes I do already do cold baths, especially in recent whether, never quite got into the full Wim Hof method but cold baths do get my vote!

Try hydrating plenty more than you have been, especially the day before running.

I’ve struggled with the consolidation runs as well in the last couple of weeks. I think it’s almost like I lost my way without having the program to follow anymore. It certainly hasn’t helped with the weather. I think I just need to pick a new target for myself.

I think we all have times when we “don’t feel inclined to run “. If you want to run on a regular basis and reap the many benefits, that’s where the discipline of

- don’t think “do I want to?” Just go! can be helpful. Running in the heat is very sapping - can you go early or late and in a shady place? I found it helpful after graduation to slacken off the pace and give myself some easier runs and found that much more comfortable & enjoyable. Good luck! 😄

Oh that’s pants. But maybe you just need a break. You’re walking a lot, every day so maybe you’re overdoing it in mind and body. 🤔
