Hi guys, I’m at the end of week three and the insides of my knees are hurting me when running and after - new trainers or technique do we think?! It’s still fairly minimal running and I don’t know whether to push through or stop and wait for the ache to go...any experts here to advise?!
Sore knees week 3: Hi guys, I’m at the end of... - Couch to 5K
Sore knees week 3
I am not an expert. I only have my own experience of “Runner’s knee” diagnosed and the advice shared here which has been very good.
Are you stretching properly and well hydrated? Is it worth trying an extra rest day between runs. For my specific problems, I have a short set of exercises to complete regularly and am supposed to use the exercise bike to help strengthen the muscles which hold the knee cap straight.
Get medical advice if you are worried; a physio session might be well worth it. Hopefully it is something that will gradually reduce. Good luck with the program. 👍
Hey there! I'm no expert either... but happy to share my experiences. I had do many aches and pains in week3 to 4. My knee were hurting but also other joints. Turns out I was running flat footed rather than landing on the forefoot. Watching the Japanese slow jogging video on YouTube (recommended by many on here) helped enormously - I also did an extended warm up walk, added in a couple of dynamic stretches. But I think the slow jogging technique sorted me out. My physio always used to say if pain disappeared after a couple of days it was fine. If it lasted longer than it wasn't good pain! Hope you manage to find a way forward. If not maybe try gait analysis or check in with your gp.... Good luck and gang in there 😁
I had that problem in the early weeks. I had gait analysis and bought the correct running shoes for me - after that the problem gradually went away. 😀
Running on grass and the beach helped me, along with stretching after runs and extra rest days.
Standard in week 2 and 3! Ibuprofen an hour before running helps if you don’t want to rest. Goes in a week or so.
Thanks everyone! I’m going to try running slower and in new trainers after having a gait analysis done - was on grass on the last one which was the worst, I think due to uneven ground?!
