Hi, I am new to running. Completed wk2 run2 today and in pain on the inside of both knees. Really don't want to stop running, any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

Hi, I had pains like that when I previously started this programme so I did step back from the 'demands' and eased a bit. That helped for me. Make sure your knees and toes point the same direction ie forward when you are doing anything on your feet, even when driving a car. I keep my fingers crossed for you!

Try doing squats and other quad strengthening exercises to take some of the pressure off your knees - it does work! 8-)

That was exactly the time I started having problems last year. I was advised to do knee strengthening exercises (squats etc) and where possible run on grass. I also had gait analysis and a pair if trainers fitted (search online for a local shop offering this service). This all helped but the big mistake I made was when the pain disappeared I stopped the exercises. The knee pain returned and its harder to get rid of now I am running longer. You'll be fine though. Don't let it put you off. Im 47 by the way and had never run any distance in my life until last year. Ive now got the running bug😀

Adydouglas gives good advice.

If you are new to this, you have to work through aches and pains in the first few weeks. They pretty much cleared up after W5 for me.

If the pain is acute and persists after you finish running, then you may need professional medical advice from GP or physio.

Keep at it. It is worth the effort.

Maybe try imagining you're running on something really delicate, it helped me run a lot lighter and my knees felt better for it.
