W6 R3 - failed😞

I’m feeling really demotivated now. I normally run on a treadmill in my garage (don’t want anyone to see me), but yesterday decided to go out. My daughter came with me too. I just couldn’t do it. Managed the 1st 10 mins (with a couple of short walks, which I’ve never had to do) - couldn’t even get going for the 2nd bit. I think the heat didn’t help (went at 1pm) and normally I am very focused, but wasn’t as much. I am now worried that running on a treadmill is easier than outside and although I have run 20 mins on TM, I’m going to have to start again for outside running. Feeling really disheartened today😞

Hi - well done you for getting out there in the heat yesterday. I've not run on a treadmill so I don't really know but I can imagine it probably is a slightly different experience. However to have got as far through the program as you have, you must have the stamina and fitness to manage outside. It doesn't help that you chose the hottest day of the year to make the transition. If you go out again tomorrow I'm sure you'll find it much easier. Don't be too disheartened. Just get out there again for your next run and see how you get on. You're doing great!

Definitely not a fail. You tried running outside for the first time it's ok it just takes some practice. When you are on the treadmill your pace is set when you're outside it's up to you to set it you were maybe running too fast. Try again another day and go really slow . Good luck 😊😊

Hi Beccaaboo. Don’t be upset. It is different running outside for a variety of reasons, I started running on a TM before switching outside. I had some good advice, to always set the TM to 1.5% incline to mimic road running and it seemed to work for me. Outside you have to concentrate on pacing which I found challenging, and if your running with someone else and they are faster than you, you will naturally tend to run faster which won’t help. Running in the peak heat of the hottest day of the year makes it tougher still. Definitely not a fail, an experiment with valuable lessons. No run is ever wasted, and be proud you had a go 👍

Hi Beccaaboo. It seems from the great replies you've had so far, that there are a number of factors that will have had an impact on your run. I've only just started running but am an expert on being too self critical and think you are being very harsh on yourself. So maybe stand back, see the bigger picture, it's a chance to learn something new - and please be kind to yourself! ❤

Totally agree with everyone else so far!

It was hhhooott yest n you went out, you transitioned from a tm which is different, you challenged yourself in several ways within a challenge n, believe it or not, despite walking you still did extremely well!!

I’m also too hard on myself at times so can fully understand you’re disappointment but, there are plenty of positives to take and build upon from that run, so put it down to experience and if you want repeat it.

No run is ever a failure - if that was the case we wouldn’t have Olympic champions etc as even they have off days 🤗 x

I had the same experience. Most of my running had been TM up till then. When I got back and looked at my pace I found I was running WAY to fast (although I didn't feel like I was). Did it again slower and sailed though it.

You will do it, doesn’t matter how long it takes you - the important thing is that you are doing something which is more than many 🤗 x

Always remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Having stuff on your mind can have a massive impact on your ability to run, and since you changed how you run, where and who with all at the same time, and did it on one of the hottest days ever, your mind had plenty going on before it tried connecting your legs and lungs too ! Be proud: you took on major challenges and managed to run a bit too ⭐️ Every time it’ll get a bit easier, so never despair x

Back in the treadmill yesterday. Incline on as suggested ( only on 1 though for now!) - and ........ I DID IT! No problem. Thanks everyone for your encouragement😀👍
