Another one bites the dust! ๐ช๐ป Oddly I found the first 3 min run harder than the second? I still cant imagine running for any longer than 3 mins though, good lord itโs hard work! ๐
No aches or pains though! Cannot stress enough how daily gentle stretching as well as before and after a run has made a difference for me. Onward! โบ๏ธ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ

You'll soon be running longer than 3mins tee, we all have faith in you . Good to hear that your poorly knee is holding out and your daily stretches are helping you. Definitely onwards for you now and no looking back. You go girl !๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โ
I just canโt see me running for longer! I have faith in the programme, it just seems so far away right now. But Iโm going to concentrate on the here and now. Thank you for your support as always gman โบ๏ธ
I felt the same about running for longer periods of time as well tee. Honestly it will come to you. Go at your own pace and stay positive. If I can do this anyone can believe me. 20 odd years of drinking smoking ect and I'm doing it, running for 28mins lol. It seems like it's impossible at times but it will come good for you โ
Youโre so supportive thank you ๐ did/do you ever feel your pace is too quick? I donโt think I have found my pace yet and sometimes maybe go a bit quick. Do you find now youโre more experienced you have a set pace you run at?
Sometime I do yes but I can always slow down a little . I find the first 10minutes or so the hardest, but after that I settle down and just plod on. Every run I've done from week one has been hard work but going steady will get you there. Think i have found my pace now but im not really worried if some days I'm better than other days , it's getting out there and giving it ago what really matters ๐๐โ
Great running. The start is usually the hardest, it takes a few minutes for the brain to realise that what we are doing will mean turning the aerobic systems up! Itโs sometimes referred to as the โtoxic 10โ as this seems to be the time where most of us feel it getting a little easier. The walk breaks disguise it a little, but what you felt is very normal.
Youโre already running intervals 3 times longer than when you started... Iโd hazard a guess that when running those 60 seconds at the start, 3 minutes seemed impossible. Relax, enjoy the runs and trust the plan, you can do it.
Youโre absolutely right! That first run I came back and remember feeling โthat was SO hardโ. And I just ran for 3 mins.. twice! Iโm interested in this โtoxic 10โ thing, funny how the mind and body work sometimes. Thank you so much for your reply ๐
Basically, the subconscious brain reacts to there being less oxygen in the blood itโs getting (oxygen deficit) as the trigger to increase oxygen intake, despite the conscious brain knowing what youโre doing, and looking at it from the outside itโs obvious that itโs going to need more oxygen. Iโve felt this at parkrun a lot, but now Iโm running further Iโm in a position to go for a light jog before the start to remove it from my actual run.
Thank you very much for explaining it to me, makes perfect sense really! At least now when it starts I know itโs just that and i wonโt psyche myself out. Honestly this forum and itโs people ๐๐๐ป
hello Sewsandy, I use some I found in running magzine but there are some on here if you look in couch to 5 k notes, or if you google nhs couch to 5k stretches, sorry cant give you link as not very good with techi stuff ๐ณ
Easier cos you have done it once already, you are warmed up and you have broken the psychological barrier perhaps? For sure, in a few weeks you will look back at this post and feel amazed that you even thought that - now I say to myself "only 3/5/10 to go"!!! Enjoy!!
Keep to your routine, congratulate yourself after every single run and you will do it - the feeling is amazing, then it is consolidate and keep going - I only run 30 mins x 3 a week and just want to build up distance and a few hills!! It will happen, keep the faith!!
You are doing really well. What I found to be useful, was not looking ahead in the programme, especially in the early days. Just take each run as it comes, and do your best. If you take it nice and slowly, you wonโt get too tired and out of breath, making it easier to complete the run. Embrace your inner snail ๐! ๐
So pleased for you that you are back on track. Hopefully you have made a breakthrough with the stretching ๐
Honestly, you will be surprised how quickly you increase those running times. They are always challenging but totally achievable and the sense of achievement at the end of the run is something I would love to be able to bottle!
I've done another 2 30 min runs using the week 9 podcasts but i feel a little bit lost to be honest! I need to take some time and formulate a nice easy plan for myself to build up to 5k ๐
