This is my second run after graduating and Iβve just ran my very first parkrun and I loved it Iβm doing it next week as well and my unofficial time is 36:51 but I could of kicked myself I started walking a few times but I was getting fatigued so Iβm going to try and not stop next time as Iβve not done that before that many times next time as itβs a hard course and quite hilly and slippy I will do better I will put my official time on here when I get it πππππ
My first parkrun ππ: This is my second run... - Couch to 5K
My first parkrun ππ
Well done. Itβs a great feeling when you finish, isnβt it?
Great. I did Park run this morning & achieved a similar time. Well done us!ππ»
Congratulations Kev on completing your first 5k Parkrun, well done, I will be running my first parkrun in 4 weeks, 13th July.
I suppose it feels different running with a crowd compared to running yourself, perhaps makes you run faster. At the end of the run they scan your barcode, is that time of 36.51 not a official time,
Hi Alan no itβs not official the wife timed it when I started and finished I will let you know what it is when I find out π
Thanks for your reply Kev, I got a email from the organiser of the parkrun I am running, he told me that I will be welcomed and said that particular parkrun will be 4 that day.
That'll be a party atmosphere then for your first Parkrun! Great timing! There might even be π...
Thank you Debston yes definitely great time and yes party yay πΊ and by doing the parkrun when I run race for life I going to do great thatβs on 14th July π
It's the Dunfermline Parkrun.
Thatβs your parkrun that youβre doing Alan π
Yes, they emailed me yesterday and said I would be welcomed to the 4th birthday of Dunfermline Parkrun. It's not the nearest parkrun to me but as I know it very well because I have been going a lot of walks in that park for over the past 9 years.
Thatβs very good I hope you enjoy it and you will have to let me know how it goes I bet itβs a beautiful park in Scotland enjoy mate πππππ»ββοΈ
The park is very near Dunfermline Abbey, that is where the heart of Robert the Bruce is buried.
I mentioned that last week I installed a metromone app onto my Smartphone, it ticks away the number of beats/steps a minute that I can run, the first time I used it I set it at 155 steps a minute and ran a 5K in 52 minutes, three days later I set it at 160 steps and ran a 5K in 38 minutes.
Tomorrow I will set it at 162, run the same 5K course, that will probably get me to around 35 minutes which is around the same time as I was running the 5K last year. π π
I would think if I wanted to run a 5K in just under 30 minutes I would have to set it around 170 steps a minute based on my strides which are much the same except going up hills when they are a little shorter.
I bet it is a beautiful route! I'm coming to Scotland in August but there don't seem to be any Parkruns close enough to where we are staying in Applecross.
Lovely area but I don't think there are any parkruns near Applecross.
PS I have just done a 5K in 17 minutes and 30 seconds on my π² BIKE, tomorrow I will run that same route with my metromone, I'll set the steps at 162 BPM, should run it around 35/37 minutes. π π
My official time is 36:57 yay π
Excellent, so you think you are "hooked " on running further runs on a Saturday morning, they say parkruns become addictive just like getting the running bug π. π π
Well done on discovering the joy that is parkrun! And a very respectable time.
Thank you next run Iβm going to pace and not try and keep up with people then I might not stop and walk which Iβm disappointed in myself for doing it π
Don't be too hard on yourself! Once you've got used to the idea that you can do exactly as you please after graduation, sometimes the right thing to do is to stop and stretch out a tightening muscle or just take a second to compose yourself. A lot of people say they get faster times when they run/walk than when they run continuously.
Ok I wonβt itβs the taking part that counts itβs something I can work on I think I will hang back next week with the older runners that I was in front of and they took over me on the 2nd lap and I just couldnβt catch them back lol π and I just have to pace myself better next time as like they say itβs not a race
Well done Kevtrev, glad you enjoyed your first Parkrun this morning and what a great time! Don't be annoyed with yourself for walking a couple of times, you're only competing against yourself at Parkrun! So do what feels right. But maybe go slow and steady at the start so you have a bit more in the tank for later on. Anyway, all sounds good and you did 100% better than me today - I overslept and missed it! π€£ Doh!
Well done Kev, and great that Mrs Kevtrev was there to cheer you on !
Well done! Canβt wait to try my first one, it must be nice to run with lots of others!
Oh dear you over slept never mind there is always next week and yes Iβm going to pace myself better next week and hopefully I will not stop but Iβm going to start running there and improve myself for my next week run and hopefully get a better time but Iβm more than happy with that ππππππ
Brilliant! Welcome to the parkrun family, the best invention ever - and your new addiction......π......thatβs Saturday mornings taken care of.......π
Mx

And yes I was thinking of you as I did mine itβs been a journey and a half and itβs only just beginning πππππ»ββοΈππππ€ XX
No idea what your course is like in terms of hills etc., but that is a fantastic first time effort. Well done!
Great stuff Kev. Parkrun is awesome, so glad you've found it!
Thank you clubberlang yes parkrun total opens another door and Iβm glad I opened that door itβs fantastic and now itβs going to be my weekly thing ππ
