First Parkrun

So, I’ve completed my first Parkrun today. I’m not really sure why, but I was so apprehensive about doing it. I think it was a combination of running with other people, worrying that I’d be “too slow” and general unease at not knowing what to do.

I really shouldn’t have worried. I had a brilliant experience. Everyone I encountered was friendly, and running with other people actually made it easier.

I started right at the back, along with people pushing prams and dog walkers. Off we went, and I stayed towards the back, plodding along for the first couple of minutes before thinking “I could probably go faster”.

I actually started overtaking people until I came across someone who looked very experienced. I then just followed them until there was around 500m to go. They picked up their pace and I was unable to keep up with them. With around 200m left, I was knocking on the door of 30 minutes (which is my goal) so I ran as hard as I could until I reached the finish line.

I was so made up with myself that I forgot to look at my watch to get my finish time.

Fortunately I’d registered with Parkrun and within hours they had sent me my time..... 30’17” - sooo happy with that. The sub 30 will come in time.

I never could have done this without the C25K app and you guys pushing me along.

And, anyone unsure of doing a Parkrun, just bite the bullet and do it. You certainly won’t regret it.

Wow, well done, that’s amazing. I would really like to do a parkrun but I don’t think I could go on my own.

Of course you can. Honestly just do it and if it’s not for you, I’ll give you all your money back 😉

Congratulations, that is a excellent time for your first parkrun, considering that you started at the back of the pack with the dog walkers and gradually worked your way up to finish just 18 seconds from a sub 30 minute 5k, I am sure that you will be able to run a sub 30 minute 5k very soon. 😊 🏃

Wow! 30:17 first parkrun... that is awesome! Very well done.

You can’t beat running past people... and as you started at the back, you probably ran sub-30 today... only a matter of time before it’s official!

Happy running.
