This is my second run after graduating and I’ve just ran my very first parkrun and I loved it I’m doing it next week as well and my unofficial time is 36:51 but I could of kicked myself I started walking a few times but I was getting fatigued so I’m going to try and not stop next time as I’ve not done that before that many times next time as it’s a hard course and quite hilly and slippy I will do better I will put my official time on here when I get it πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ†πŸπŸŽ“

Well done. It’s a great feeling when you finish, isn’t it?

It is a great feeling when you finish πŸ˜‰ I wish there was a bit of rain as I seem to run much better when it does strange but true πŸ˜‰

Congratulations Kev on completing your first 5k Parkrun, well done, I will be running my first parkrun in 4 weeks, 13th July.

I suppose it feels different running with a crowd compared to running yourself, perhaps makes you run faster. At the end of the run they scan your barcode, is that time of 36.51 not a official time,

Kevtrevβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

Hi Alan no it’s not official the wife timed it when I started and finished I will let you know what it is when I find out πŸ˜‰

AlMorr profile image

Thanks for your reply Kev, I got a email from the organiser of the parkrun I am running, he told me that I will be welcomed and said that particular parkrun will be 4 that day.

That'll be a party atmosphere then for your first Parkrun! Great timing! There might even be πŸŽ‚...

Sorry, I meant for AlMorr s first one as it's that Parkrun's 4th birthday! But yes, it's quite a party atmosphere anyway isn't it? πŸŽ‰

AlMorr profile image

It's the Dunfermline Parkrun.

That’s your parkrun that you’re doing Alan πŸ˜‰

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduateβ€’ in reply toKevtrev

Yes, they emailed me yesterday and said I would be welcomed to the 4th birthday of Dunfermline Parkrun. It's not the nearest parkrun to me but as I know it very well because I have been going a lot of walks in that park for over the past 9 years.

Kevtrev profile image
Kevtrevβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

That’s very good I hope you enjoy it and you will have to let me know how it goes I bet it’s a beautiful park in Scotland enjoy mate πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€πŸπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

The park is very near Dunfermline Abbey, that is where the heart of Robert the Bruce is buried.

I mentioned that last week I installed a metromone app onto my Smartphone, it ticks away the number of beats/steps a minute that I can run, the first time I used it I set it at 155 steps a minute and ran a 5K in 52 minutes, three days later I set it at 160 steps and ran a 5K in 38 minutes.

Tomorrow I will set it at 162, run the same 5K course, that will probably get me to around 35 minutes which is around the same time as I was running the 5K last year. 😊 πŸƒ

I would think if I wanted to run a 5K in just under 30 minutes I would have to set it around 170 steps a minute based on my strides which are much the same except going up hills when they are a little shorter.

DebstonGraduateβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

I bet it is a beautiful route! I'm coming to Scotland in August but there don't seem to be any Parkruns close enough to where we are staying in Applecross.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduateβ€’ in reply toDebston

Lovely area but I don't think there are any parkruns near Applecross.

PS I have just done a 5K in 17 minutes and 30 seconds on my 🚲 BIKE, tomorrow I will run that same route with my metromone, I'll set the steps at 162 BPM, should run it around 35/37 minutes. 😊 πŸƒ

Excellent, so you think you are "hooked " on running further runs on a Saturday morning, they say parkruns become addictive just like getting the running bug πŸ›. 😊 πŸƒ

Well done on discovering the joy that is parkrun! And a very respectable time. :)

Kevtrev profile image
Kevtrevβ€’ in reply toPianism

Thank you next run I’m going to pace and not try and keep up with people then I might not stop and walk which I’m disappointed in myself for doing it πŸ˜‰

Pianism profile image
PianismGraduateβ€’ in reply toKevtrev

Don't be too hard on yourself! Once you've got used to the idea that you can do exactly as you please after graduation, sometimes the right thing to do is to stop and stretch out a tightening muscle or just take a second to compose yourself. A lot of people say they get faster times when they run/walk than when they run continuously. :)

Kevtrev profile image
Kevtrevβ€’ in reply toPianism

Ok I won’t it’s the taking part that counts it’s something I can work on I think I will hang back next week with the older runners that I was in front of and they took over me on the 2nd lap and I just couldn’t catch them back lol πŸ˜‚ and I just have to pace myself better next time as like they say it’s not a race

Debston profile image

Well done Kevtrev, glad you enjoyed your first Parkrun this morning and what a great time! Don't be annoyed with yourself for walking a couple of times, you're only competing against yourself at Parkrun! So do what feels right. But maybe go slow and steady at the start so you have a bit more in the tank for later on. Anyway, all sounds good and you did 100% better than me today - I overslept and missed it! 🀣 Doh!
