Well... after coping pretty well with week 1, week 2 hit with bump this morning. I'm pretty sure i'm suffering from shin splints, even before running i'm getting a dull ache in my shins on the brisk walk. Although perhaps i was just a bit dehydrated after the 'pop' consumed on Saturday night. I completed the run ok but was much harder work than week one (i even thought about stopping on the last run). To be honest i think my main issue is that i really don't understand how unfit i've become. As a kid i was always running, ran for the school and the county in Cross Country. So i've got pre-conceived ideas about what 'running' is, and i find it hard to go 'slow'. I've run half-marathons in my teens and i'm not kidding i've had a cigarette before setting off and at the finish line too.. it used to be all so easy. I think it's finally dawning on me that i'm no teenager anymore and i'm essentially starting from scratch as an unfit 50 year old. It's not that easy to accept this. So, i reckon this is an important lesson for many of us... if you've been inactive for a good while, forget all targets other than completing the course, and forget what has gone before. As part of this it doesn't matter how fast, or how far you run, as long as you run for the time specified, everything else will follow.
No doubt i'll still start off running at my 'running speed' on the next run, but i think i'm now happier to slow down if need be in order to finish.
Happy c25k all.

Welcome along ! You were clearly one of those kids who put little dumpy ones like me clean off sport - now you know how we felt 😂 It will get better very soon - you clearly have natural talent and your body will get back into it, but give it time to adjust. You wouldn’t take an old car that had been left in a garage for 20 years to give its full performance first time out, and it’s just the same for you. Stick with it - we’re all on your side here 😀
Although at this stage it is unlikely to be shin splints, please do take the advice from IannodaTruffe .
Slow down now... relax..this is a great plan so don't rush it...You have the right idea..This is a whole new adventure.. what has passed has passed and this is going to be fun!
You have no idea where slow and steady will take you..it is truly amazing!
