Always last

So my local sweat shop puts on two 5k runs a week, sometime interval circuit sprints and sometimes interval hill sprints, it is really embarrassing as it’s like at school were I just get left behind or worse with the circuits getting lapped, all the other people are not even breathing while I am panting my brains out it is really sad 😞 any suggestions, I thought I was a boss runner 🏃🏻‍♂️ ☹️ They always just sprint off or lap me 😔 even the girls 😢

Runningnut, at least you are taking part! Be proud of it, there is probably people around that are just looking, you are doing it!

I always figure the last runner is the most important - they can't end the race until you get there! :)

I run against myself - that can be negative 'I'm terrible at this" or positive 'For the state, shape and condition I'm in - the bravest thing I am doing is running at all!!" :)

Years ago at a Martial Arts Dojo, an ignoramus in the audience literally brayed 'Haw haw - look at that old guy, he can barely kick above his knee!". The 'old guy' was 72 and while he couldn't kick 'high' he sure as heck was kicking the caca out of far younger guys like me when it was 'open sparring' time. He literally could have crippled the ignoramus if he had wanted to.

Lesson I learned from it was - if I'm enjoying something, other people's opinions of how I do it is outside my Hula Hoop. ;)

Get to where you are satisfied with YOUR running - then enjoy :)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future :)

I wasn't sure if that was your local sweat shop your local sweet shop, probably sweat regarding all that running. Sounds nasty, I assume it's a sort of running club, if it reminds you of school I sympathise with you. Just run at your own pace, don't worry about the gazelles that overtake you or lap you.

You are a boss runner, you are taking part and you are running. I will do a 2k run with my 13 year old and I am pretty sure he's going to beat me and my 16 year old will probably overtake me in the park run as it's laps.

You’re not really last. You’re finished and there’s most of a town around you who haven’t even started yet 😄

Well you are right in some ways as they run up the river one way and then back the people at the back have a shorter distance to get back to the start; so once I have actually come first or got back to the start even though I was the slowest hahahahahah

l assume you're not a professional competitive runner, trying hard to get to the next Olympics. Those guys tend to stress about times and being overlapped. We should do this for fun, stress-free experience and first and foremost - health benefits. Enjoy your runs and if you dislike being lapped (l know some tremendous girl runners), then simply run alone. I always do.

I am not a professional runner or athelete but I would like to compete. When you put it into context of running a marathon, mudder, triathlon, iron man etc etc I am kinda worried no one else was even breathing hard I was struggling to breathe. Also as I am a cycle courier I need to be fit, you could say my living depends on it in many ways at the moment and I would like to get fitter. I don’t think I will ever be an professional athlete at anything especially at this rate 😔

As someone who also always trails behind myself, i like to think it's more a case of saving the best till last! 😉

At least you have the guts to take part, it's more than many 💪💪💪

🥰 thank you for the words of wisdom I do track my runs on my Apple Watch and it is fascinating to try and improve using the splits recovery time and metrics it tracks. Which I am. But they say that working out is best with someone. In a group it is great as I can meet people another benefit so I think the previous comment to yours about running being the best benefits for health benefits, fun and even meeting people and making friends is true.

Even releasing those exercise endorphins is great 👍 very much seems pain followed by pleasure atm though ahahahahahahah
