Just gearing myself up to go out today - was going great and really enjoying it but haven’t now run since last Saturday as recovering from a general anaesthetic (all fine now) , just feel really tired and sluggish this morning - if I stick to the plan I shd be on w3r3 and don’t want to let this slip away from me - any tips?? Shd I press on, rest up or start again!

Hi Slbu. The anaesthetic will stay in your system for a while, so judging when you start back is really your call. If you haven't done any exercise at all since your gen.an, then perhaps going for a walk this morning would be a safer option? You could make it a brisk one if you feel you are doing okay. You won't loose condition until you have had two weeks or more between runs, so you should be okay to start back where you left off, but again that's your decision and you can always step it back if needed. Remember you set the pace. The aim is to get you running eventually but safely.

Do keep drinking plenty water to keep you hydrated, it'll help get the anaesthetic out of your system.

Good luck! 😊

Just take it slow and steady. The anxiety you feel will build the longer you wait, so don’t leave it too long. Allow yourself to just go out and see what you can do. Don’t stress about nailing it first time. You probably will, but if not, that’s what the repeat facility is for. Just note what you manage and aim to beat it the next time. Always remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Have fun x

If it's been a week just go out and do your next run you can do this 😊😊

What ever you decide to do Slbu, take it easy & be kind to yourself. Try & take the pressure off yourself by just going out. Walk, run if you feel like it. More importantly, look after yourself & allow your body (&mind) to recover. Good luck & speedy recovery 👍🏻

If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... you will see that I recommend, from personal experience, that it is better to wait until fully recovered before running after any illnesses.

You lose next to no condition in the first two weeks of non running.

Relax, get well, then tackle the next run with positivity.
