Dare I?

Debating about doing my first Parkrun tomorrow. I am only on W7R2 but I am managing that quite well so far. So I might take the plunge and go along. I most likely won’t run all of it as my timings at present mean I only run about 5k but I can walk some too. Feel a bit nervous at the thought of going on my own!

Go. Do it. But do it as part of the C25K plan. So start at the back of the crowd and do your 5 min warm up walk first then run and walk the rest. Enjoy.

Go for it! Quite a few of us doing our first ever Parkruns tomorrow - we can compare notes after!

As above... go, love it, and do your scheduled run there.

What damienair said is exactly right. Yes, definitely go, but only run the 25 minutes specified by the programme. There's a lot to be said for doing your 5 minute warm up during rather than before the run -at this early stage I mean, not when you get to the point where running 5k is routine. It reduces the temptation to run the whole way when you shouldn't at this stage, but also, it lets the crowds get ahead so you can run more freely. There's also a psychological benefit because any runners slower than you will get ahead of you while you are walking, whereas only walkers will be behind you. Therefore, when you start to run you will pass other people rather than other people passing you. That shouldn't matter but this early in your running career a wee ego boost does no harm.

I've been debating my 1st parkrun for a couple weeks so going to take the plunge this morning. Good luck, just go at your own pace, you will be ok :)

I did my first parkrun in w6r2 too! Just walked the first 5 mins, ran for 10, walked for 3 as per the plan then ran another 10 but was only a short distance from the end so actually ran the last 11.5 rather than 10. Been doing them ever since. Got to love parkrun!

Go do it ... walk if need be ... parkruns are relaxed and very enjoyable.

Did you go to parkrun? If so, how was it?

I did! I ran all the way and got a time of 31.47 so I was over the moon with that! It was good fun! Some people were mega fast whilst others walked the entire way! I am a bit stiff around my ankles today though!

Well done! That's a fantastic time... I've done 19 so far and never got as low as that. :)

I made it in 34 mins. My ankle has been playing up so had to take it a little easy but was still nicely surprised.

The positive and friendly atmosphere was fantastic, I'll definitely be going again

My ankle is playing up too! Really sore and keeps swelling over the bone area! Haven’t been for a run since Saturday as it’s too sore!

Congratulations! 34 minutes is very respectable! :)

Sorry to hear both of you are having ankle problems - me too, though really it's tendons. Do get checked out by a professional if you can, try some different shoes if you can, do strengthening exercises and, above all, take extra rest or cut back if you have to. I've moved one of my runs to the treadmill and, some weeks, the elliptical machine and it's really helped. I hate it, but not as much as I'd hate having to stop running. Good luck with finding a fix.
