So I’m on the brink of trying my first Parkrun on Saturday...... feeling a bit timid about it. Completed C25K in summer then had a break when broke my toe (not while running 😁) back running now, 3 times a week.
What do you reckon? Should I go for it? I secretly want to but as I’ll be going on my own...... need a bit of encouragement. So obviously this is where I come for that 😌..... should I do it?!

Buddy34, I really appreciate your positive posts supporting everyone in the forum. You were one of the first people I read when I started and it’s great to read all your encouraging words 👏👏
Parkrun is a wonderful, non judgemental and supportive event and many walk the entire 5k, so you will be fine.
Have a look at parkrun.org.uk/ and find your local run. Register online and print off your barcode and remember to take it with you (laminate it if it looks like being wet).
Arrive in good time for a 9am start in England (sometimes a bit later in Scotland), make sure you attend the new runner's briefing and talk to people.......they are a friendly bunch.
Best to start near the back to start with, to avoid the crush and have a great time.
Do it, do it, do it, do it! Then report back here afterwards, it’s easy to get chatting to others, if you’re a bit nervous head for anyone in hi vis, the run director wears a blue and white vest and there is usually a ‘first timers’ briefing, as IannodaTruffe says maybe start nearer the back and take it steady so you get to take in the whole thing
Go for it. You have nothing to lose. I am also doing my first park run on Saturday after getting to week 9. This run will be my graduation run if all goes to plan and also my first run not on a treadmill. Good luck 👍
Great approach, let’s cheer each other on this Saturday Vicx76 😁👏!! Post how you get on, enjoy it. I’m getting all enthusiastic now from the encouraging messages
Of course you should do it, enjoy your first 5k Parkrun this Saturday morning, you don't need to be timid, sorry about your broken toe but that's fine now as you are now again running 3 times a week, parkrun times in Ireland and Scotland are at 9.30.
I hope you will enjoy your first parkrun this Saturday, it will be my 11th.
Thank you very much about my enthusiasm for running, especially at parkruns🏃🏾😊👍
This morning I ran a 5K, the first of two this week, no PB as I had to be careful regarding icy and slippy parts of the course, in fact I had to run slowly down hill in case I fell, nevertheless it was a good run. 🏃🏾
There’s no one to hold your coat they’re all taking part......and the volunteers are busy clapping and encouraging you round - no free hands to hold coats.....😉👏🏃♀️🏃♂️........you’ll just have to join in......👍
Just adding my voice to the general chorus chanting, "Do it, do it!" 😂 Honestly, there's nothing to feel timid about, just go at your own pace and enjoy. You'll be buzzing afterwards!
Such peer pressure on here... And I am going to join in!! Do it! And let us know how it was! My local park run is 2 laps of 2 different fields and I am not sure about going! It just reminds me of the line in parklife: the joggers that go round and round and round!!!
Yes yes and yes. Park runs really are fantastic. You may be interested to have a look on YouTube. Often they have time lapse videos of the courses, that way it feels a little more familiar when you are there xxx
Get it done - I hesitated for ages but I love parkrun - at mine plenty of people part walk and part run so don’t worry about whether you can run all the way. Before I went I was also wondering what I’d do if I needed to stop and was reassured when I found that you only show your barcode at the end so if for any reason you don’t complete the run it will be fine. I go on my own and generally chat to a few people before or afterwards.
I hope you enjoy it
ALSO for anyone else reading this and wondering about park run and thinking they want to do it but aren’t ready you could join get your barcode and volunteer to help for a few weeks first. That way you’ll see there are all speeds, shapes and sizes at parkrun and meet a few people too. Or just go for a jog on your own when parkrun is on and have a look.
Running less at the moment as just got a new job. I’m keeping up with parkrun and hope to get more runs in the week as get into swing of the new job. I need to start running in the evenings but I’m lacking motivation now it is dark and cold.
Absolutely. It’s such fun, you almost certainly won’t be the only first timer and you’ll find all the volunteers super friendly. 😀 Listen out for the first timers’ briefing and when you start running, start towards the back (unless you’re a natural gazelle of course!) 👍
Take along your barcode for scanning afterwards and most of all have a blast. It’s addictive so prepare to have your Saturday mornings change forever! 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️
Not today’s that’s for sure! 🤣 cold sludgy and wet !! w7r1 was the best I was going to fast today gotta remember to slow it down be the tortoise 🐢 Not be the one covered is sludge!!🤣🤣 loving c25k.
