Going back to week 1 to improve speed

I’m wondering how I can get my speed up, and I had a sudden thought... I’ve never run before and I’m on week 8. After graduation I go back to week1 and start again, do my usual slow pace jog instead of walking, and a quicker pace for the run, would that help me safely build my stamina even further! I’d be happy to repeat the whole thing again if I could get faster. I’m so impressed how it built up the running time, I want to improve more, but don’t know how

Sounds like an excellent plan. Presumably the more experienced will pronounce judgement in due course? I would agree, except my slow pace of jog is slower than my brisk walk. One could pay more attention to breathing, stance, footfall and some speed too second time round?

I too am new to running, not really set on achieving 10K any time soon, but would welcome a routine to enable me to improve overall, but still keep it fun, not a chore.

Let’s see what happens?

There’s loads of apps with speed sessions built in but I’m not that experienced to say what’s best, if you follow plan and consolidate your runs post graduating speed improves , I’ve naturally picked up pace and have now tried one speed session in the week , and a long run at weekends which funnily enough seem easier than 5 k

Yeah... that kinda works... week one is indeed mirrored as a slow/fast run on many other running plans. People have done it and loved it... I’m not sure it works with the whole plan though... the plan is all about getting to a duration, it isn’t designed to work on speed.

Interestingly you mention two things you’d like to improve... stamina and speed. Never do both on one run, that can easily lead to casualty or the physio waiting room. Stamina is the one to work on first... build your fuel tank up before taking on any speed work. Speed sessions come in a bit later and involve running shorter at a quicker pace.

Thanks for the advice. Certainly is a learning process too

I was thinking I might try going back to week 1 and do a jog/run rather than a walk/jog so I'll keep an eye on the replies to this post. I feel that I will still need the support of a coach for each run for a little while after w9 (when I get there!)
