Curiosity killed the runner???

So I completed W3R1 this morning but I forgot to wear my watch so my steps weren’t counted. I decided to go for a walk to catch up my steps and avoid losing my streak. After about 10 minutes walking I thought “I wonder how long I could actually run without stopping now?” So I tried it to see. I managed to run for 10 full minutes without stopping and then walked another 10 minutes which got me to the beach where I had a rest. Then obviously I had to turn around and go home so I tried it again and managed another 10 minutes without stopping. I have no intention of stepping off the plan but this does make the eventual 30 minutes running in 6 weeks time seem less daunting.

With respect to your title... happily not!

Ok... great job on the run... but there’s no need for a record of our achievement... especially when it comes to steps... yesterday I did 25k steps... today I ran my first 10k in a lot less, the latter has health benefits, the former is centred around some marketing from the 60s.

Now... hopefully you’ve proven to yourself all that you need to prove. You know you can run those 30s when they come... but you took a big injury risk running more... and then bigger repeating that. If this means you’ll stick to the plan from now on, then you had a great day. All the running plans you ever run will be written by people who know what they’re doing. If you’ll over run lots in future, then today was a bad precedent to set... and I’m talking as a guy who had a lot of shoutings at from a coach way back when.

Let your body develop to the point your mind is at nice and slowly... and let your mind become that of a runner. Today was my first 10k... I set off on Sunday to achieve it but I aborted as I was running too fast to do 10k safely. Keep that injury risk as low as you can... you got this. Enjoy the next run.

I was about to post something about whether it was stupid of me to run 6.5k this evening.... and now I know the answer!

I know there’s a 10% per week rule, but on Friday I comfortably got to 5k and decided to keep going and ended up doing 6k. Felt fine afterwards. This is after about 3 weeks of consolidating 30 min runs after graduating. Then I did another 6k on Sunday and felt like I could keep going, but I stopped as I didn’t want to push it. However tonight I went out with an open mind and thought I would see how I felt when I got to 5.5/6k. Well, I felt fine at 6k, so decided to go for 6.5k. At about 6.2k I started to really feel it in my legs but since I had mentally set the target of 6.5k I made myself keep going. And now my legs and feet hurt!! Hoping they will be alright tomorrow, but I now realise I took a risk and the thought of being injured and not being able to run terrifies me! I’ll take it easy on the next one...

No faulting your enthusiasm. If you’re looking to get to the 10k mark, what you’re doing (but within the 10% rule) will get you there, but it’s more efficient to run 2 5ks and a long run... maybe it’s time to look at the Bridge to 10k forum and ju-ju-‘s magic 10k plan?

Happily still here with us:) You did it.. you got away with it.. and you will make those 30 minute runs anyway.. if you follow the plan...and you will, hopefully get there, injury free... :)
