Months ago, I signed up for a "sprint" (haha) triathlon at our local leisure centre just to keep me running and training. My main aim was to finish. The event was on Saturday evening and astonishingly I did finish, wasn't quite last and was third (out of three) in my class (females 60-64).
I knew that the run would be the toughest bit, and it was. 3k is still quite hard for me even when I haven't just done a swim and a 17k bike ride. I had cramp in my feet when I finished the ride and cramp in my calves when I was running. The run was mostly around the edge of a wheat field, very bumpy and uneven with hacked off coarse grass. I probably walked about a third of it, but I did run most of the smooth bits!
I did the tri in memory of a dear friend who died very suddenly (from an aneurysm) at the age of 64 just over a week ago. It's impossible to make sense of a death like that, but to my surprise doing it for Tim and raising some money for BHF has really helped me to feel a bit better.
I now want to focus on running further, so eventually I can actually run 5k as promised! I have continued to run 2-3 times a weeks since graduating but sometimes find it difficult to shoehorn everything into a week, especially cycle rides, but also Zumba, yoga and the other stuff I have been doing for years.
Anyway I'm thinking I might try Nike Running Club and see if I can get up to the magic 5k. Or should I redo the last weeks of C25K? I do love being reassured by Laura...
Onwards and upwards. I might even sign up for another tiny tri!
