Sore Ankle 😢

So disappointed with today's run. I'm on second run of week 2 and since the second run of week 1 I've had a sore ankle on the outside below the bone. I was able to run through it last week but today I just couldn't. Anybody else had this? Would an ankle support help? I've been warming up and cooling down with yoga before and after running as well as the walking and I have proper running shoes so not going into it cold or without the proper footwear. I've been really enjoying running, something I never thought I'd say! Advice greatly received.

If it’s not easing up I’d consult a medic. Might be something to do with your gait ? Take it easy on yourself. If you’re bored, the NHS Strength and Flex podcasts are a good way to build fitness in the meantime. Hope you make a speedy recovery x

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run and dealing with injury.

Rest until pain free. Ankles can take longer than other areas to recover because of relatively poor blood flow. Cycling may be appropriate for the interim, keeping the joint mobile and improving blood flow without major loading.

Take care and enjoy the journey.

Thanks, that's really helpful and so was the link. I actually can't believe how good I was feeling energy wise and emotionally after each run (until today). I was actually starting to crave a run - crazy! Lots of advice on the link so will go away and have a proper read.

On and off I have same below ankle bone issues which remain having really strained my Achilles back in Nov and I started back in Feb but it wasn’t 100% even then- hence ongoing niggles. I take extra rest days and always wear and ankle support and proper fitted running shoes and and always ice it after a run plus warm up warm down exercises. I ran on mine too long causing a real issue so seek physio/ doc advice if rest doesn’t sort it. Good luck!
