Recently just joined this Couch to 5K as an attempt to become healthier and just genuinely do more exercise to hopefully lose a little bit of weight as well!
Just wondering how many runs people go on each week, if it's every day you run for in the week, just because I used to run every once or twice a week on the treadmill but suffered from really bad shin splints and so I didn't keep up with it.. so if anyone has any advice on them how to combat them, I would really appreciate it!
Happy Running!!

Hey I asked how often do people run and got a lot of feedback on the post on my profile. One point stated was that the app suggests 3 runs a week with a days rest at least in between, I was hoping to run once or twice a week but advice suggests 3 runs for 30 mins a week to help build running strength and fitness so I’ve now changed my outlook to going for it and aiming for 3 times a week. I’m new to running so can’t advise on the shin splits x
The plan is 3 times a week, but you can do it slightly quicker if you run every other day. The rest days are vital - you’re building muscle & all sorts of things that will help you become a stronger runner & that doesn’t happen if you run every day. Also the rest day helps prevent injury.
There’s a really great post in the pinned section IannodaTruffe’s getting started - that’s s great place to begin.
WRT to shin splints can be heel strike - you shouldn’t run how we walk, you should Land more mid foot. If it’s really bad you could try the Japanese slow jogging technique (there’s a short film on youtube) not sure if it works on a treadmill, but if you’re running outside, it’s very low impact. You could then build more pace if you want when you’ve been running for awhile.
According to the app your supposed to leave a day in between runs but I run everyday and not on weekends.see how you feel after a couple of runs you’ll get the rhythm going and then you’ll be able to tell how you want to run 🏃♂️🏃♂️
