Still aching

Hi I’m still aching after doing two consecutive runs on tues and wed(now know it’s not advised). I did a nightshift wed night so had about 3 hours sleep today. Anyway I’m supposed to be doing w1r3 tomorrow but I’m still aching really bad. Will it be ok to do it still or should I wait until next week? Hoping sleep tonight will repair me I was looking forward to running again tomorrow!

Wait, please. You really do need at least one rest day between runs.

I'm no expert, still working towards graduation. But all the advice I have ever read is to take at least 1 non running day between runs. Why not just go for a nice walk tomorrow instead. I guess you're in danger of injuring yourself if you run everyday and then having to take an extended break to recover!

Today was my rest day but I’m still aching a lot whenever I move! Dont know if it’s just the fact I’ve not had a proper rest yet as I worked last night? I went for a walk this evening with my dog but was hoping to do r3 tomorrow morn just don’t know if my body can take it! 😂

A rest day between runs. So run Tuesday, don't run Wednesday, run Thursday.

I was aching in week one, I still think week one is the hardest week simply because your leg muscles aren't used to it yet. On the plus side, those aches are your leg muscles getting stronger

You're the best judge, if you feel you need another day rest take it... If you want to give it a try, just see how it goes.

Now you have learnt the hard way that you should not have ran on consecutive days. 20091114, (never understand why people use a mobile phone number as their username ) the number 1 rule here is don't run two days in a row. Take at least a few extra days off running and resume with run 3 of week 1 at least 3 days after run 2.

Hi, it's great that you are keen and enjoying it! I am a novice runner but would say if in doubt, rest more. I kept getting achey joints esp one ankle, until I figured I wasn't allowing enough recovery time, running extra at the end of the podcast, and also running a few mins without warm up walking on my "rest days" (dashing the school run!) ...sometimes two or three days' rest needed for my ankle to stop aching, but then following the C25K directions resulted in further runs with good recovery.

I think sleep is really important for recovery and therefore for building stronger body. I have had much disruption to my sleep (kids!) and my body gets a lot of aches when my sleep is poor. I am 41. The science behind rest and good recovery makes sense. Persevering through minor injuries can create major ones, I believe. Early days yet!

While recovering from runs, why not do a low impact fitness programme lime the NHS one recommended? Strength and Flex or something, is on NHS C25K webpage.

Good luck!

Take an extra day if you are still aching. Your body sounds like it needs it, I do think with night shifts you have to take extra care as they put a lot of pressure on Your system, You should be fine by next week. Rfc x

I’d recommend an extra rest day, it’ll allow the aches to subside and you’ll probably have a better run by doing so.

Yes... the best fix for any damage done skipping a rest day is more rest days!

It’s better to run Monday and Friday than Monday, Tuesday and Thursday... the muscles need to heal and then strengthen, so the back to back days may just get the healing bit done... this plan is about progression and development, so that day off is key.

Personally, if I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t run tomorrow even if I felt good.

It’s good to learn these things early of course. Enjoy closing the first week out when you run.
